He's already begun to distance himself from Trump. That's how I read this.

I think he would be wiser to cite the actual American people instead of "smart pollsters" but there is some level of humility in his post.

Actually I disagree here. Normally yes, Trump would; however, I think Trump finally recognized his war cost us, and he understands that Vance needs to be seen as opposed to it. Vance is very shrewd, and he is and will continue to position himself against the war without appearing to be against Trump.

This statement was not made without Trump’s review and approval.

Vance stood against Iran and got arrows from "the right" for the last 8 months in return.

I'm not sure what anyone else wants him to do. He voiced opposition, and he was right. He was given a garbage assignment and he did the best he could. He stood by Trump as much as possible while pretty much every other contingent in Trump's orbit, the GOPe, neocons, etc. all got their knives out for Vance.

I don't know about that. 2024 was a long time ago and Trump is a lame duck.

Many reported that, behind the scenes, Vance opposed the war. He has some 'splainin to do. If he was so opposed to the war, as the only member of the executive branch that Trump can't fire, he could have done more to stop it.

Man, its such a vast contrast to hear someone like Vance break things down and respectably and concisely give his thoughts compared to Trump's incessant blathering, pointing fingers, deflecting blame, avoiding responsibility, pumping himself up etc.

They still don’t truly understand it. Backlash was for Thune and do nothing Republican Congress. The war and gas prices were some of the issue but not the whole story.

I have said before that today would be the first day of the 2028 presidential campaign, and that Vance would have to start to distance himself from Trump.

How does he have explaining to do? He stood against it, and was absolutely vilified for it. It's not some secret. The Israel lobby has been out for blood against Vance in the open for months for precisely this reason.

Instead of having to now say "I told you so", he should have reminded Trump way back when that he couldn't fire him and that he was going to call a press conference and very publicly break from Trump if he started dropping bombs.

Yep .

Both trying desperately, like damsels in distress, to distance themselves from the cucked, impotent Trump in hopes of salvaging their asses in time for 2028..... Might work for Rhonda Santis, no way will it work for JD ("Eyeliner") Vance .

His post is entirely reasonable.

He has my support for 2028 unless DeSantis makes a hard push in which case I’ll hear them both out.

Time to step away from Trump seems to be the answer for 2028

Vance gets it. He would be a great President. Which means he has no shot in hell.
