I’m not punishing JD for Trumps decisions

I think Charlie Kirk and JD were keeping Trump on the right path and something changed after Kirk was murdered. Kirk had more influence than people realize and was starting a movement among young men. The same young men who just abandoned Trump

There’s a reason they killed Kirk and it had the desired effect. Everything started coming apart after that and Susie Wiles got her talons into Trump and started blocking access to Trump from the maga coalitions keeping him focused on America first. He then pivoted to neocon because he only got advice from neocons

Some of us aren't fooled by that crap, because we remember hearing it as far back as the BHO administration when Hillary was SOS.

This was a pretty succinct analysis from Vance.

I'd like to see him as a talking head after his VP term is over.

Vance is going to have to either get Trump under control for the next 2 years and crank up the economy or he is going to have to turn on him.

Vance does seem to recognize what failed the right last night

If you haven’t learned yet, Trumps positions are based exclusively on who was kissing his arse most recently.

Seems to me that this was written a few weeks ago.

It’s all rigged.

Had a Democratic friend tell me this morning that it’s rigged. That she knows that the Democrats will screw everything up like they always do. Just like the Republicans did this time.

I'm not sure he has the want to at this point.

I also don't think JD makes a post like this absent at least a tacit "blessing" from the President.

And so you think Vance should have publicly broken with the President, likely failed to stop the war, ruined any ongoing influence he had in the administration, etc.?

Look, saying "I think this was such a calamity that the VP should have burned down his standing in the administration and torpedoed it to be a whistleblower, essentially" isn't inherently out of bounds for me. But I just don't think it's very realistic, would have been useful, and candidly if it happened a ton of people sympathetic to the idea would be lecturing us on how you don't turn against the President at a time like this, etc.

And of course, if you're of that opinion, I don't see how you can be ideologically consistent and support Rubio. "Oh, well it's ok because he didn't actually even object to the calamitous thing" is probably the best argument, and it's a hilariously bad one.

Vance is done. He latched on with war mongering and now he stinks.

Didn’t Vance make multiple trips to Iran to supposedly end the war and ended up failing spectacularly and getting his arse handed to him in negotiations?

Should Trump resign and let JDV start fixing this?

Maybe? He didn't latch onto war mongering, he latched onto an anti-war mongering campaign that turned war mongering over his costly objective.

But like I said, I don't see how Vance can be finished for this but someone who actually went along silently with it would not be (Rubio).

The counterpoint is that I wonder if Trump blessed Vance doing this type of separation. I'm not sure that's in Trump's nature, and even if he did, I wouldn't expect Trump to hold himself to that long term.

I would bet Trump turns on JD at some point. He falls out with everyone

If you're asking if Trump punished Vance for Vance's objection to the war by making him the focal point of negotiations in which Vance had minimal leverage because the US was never going to put boots on ground in Iran and Americans were already growing fatigued with our limited engagement - yes.

100%

I can absolutely see a scenario where someone in Trump's close orbit conveys permission for Vance to take this sort of move and Trump abandons that 72 hrs from now

He's been this way for a while. He was on Rogan 6 months ago talking about how affordability is an issue regardless of the stock market. He pushed back on Iran as much as he reasonably could. He's been warm at best to Israel.

He's been calling out the issues for a while now, but he's not renaming bodies of water so nobody paid attention.

Well looks like sticking by him probably fricked his political career for the foreseeable future and may have contributed to democrats blowing republicans out of the water in a way we haven't seen in my lifetime, nuking whatever power this administration had, so there's that...

I don't support rubio either. Massive neocon. The vast vast majority of GOP leadership is dogshit. The best thing the republicans have had going for them the last several years is that Trump was a very effective campaigner against two women no one likes.

They failed to accomplish like 90% of what they said they'd do and even did a number of things they warned would happen if they lost.

Yea there is a clip of Vance saying only dumb presidents get us into middle eastern wars and Trump is not a dumb president.

It is going to be nearly impossible for Vance to worm out of this for 2028.

For one thing . . . the war isn’t going away. Iran is going to keep disrupting shipping. Houthis are going to keep bombing the Saudis. Pretending like this conflict is gone and done isn’t a strategy, and there will be less political will and cover than ever before to continue engaging in a hot war with Iran.
