Wrong. I don't like high gas prices. And I spent a large portion of my life living pay check to pay check. I know what it is like to struggle.
The people talk shite to and about on here are the one's who said nothing when gas was higher under Biden for years (and would have only remained higher and gone up more if he/Kamala had been elected in 2024)... after he ended the Keystone XL pipeline on day one of his Presidency and vowed to end fossil fuels in 10 years.... but only NOW are crying about gas prices every day when they've only gone up the last few months, temporarily, while we shut Iran's terrrorist muzzie asses down.
All those nerds are TDS crybabies. frick them.

I think part of the point is how many, many posters were complaining about high prices under Biden. I didn't see a lot of " I'm rich, I don't care" comments back then. Folks were raising hell about gas prices when Biden was to blame. Now they don't care.

When we were having to maintain a place in TN, the point where we started travelling less was ~$3.50-$3.75.
We no longer have to make that trip so we don't travel as much right now. Our main travelling is mostly local so that keeps costs down already. That's probably going to not change unless gasoline gets over $4-$5/gallon.
There are a LOT of consumers out there with lots of credit card debt. For those who just service their debt and keep piling it on because that's more preferable to them than tempering their lifestyle, it's not going to matter... until it does.

Gas is up 17 cents in the last week. Prob going to add a little more to that over the next few days.

Considering I know this is due to global demand and not some woke politician trying to force green energy. Smart people know the war in Iran will not last forever, and prices will go down, whereas dumb frick green legislation will never end raising the price of energy. Funny how that works.

Why should it last at all? Oh yeah "two weeks away from a nuke" even though we destroyed their capabilities in Midnight Hammer (supposedly).
Trump had gas down to 2.15 a gallon in Houston and proved the prices we were paying under Biden were self inflicted. However, he's run prices up to over 3.25 for the past 4-5 months and shown once again, its self-inflicted.

So no potential adverse effects on the economy. Got it.

Those in charge are immune to the effects that their decisions impose on their constituents. We, as the people, seemingly always accept the effects as "normal" consequences of existing in this country.
They know we will "take it" whether we like it or not. Too many of us are slaves to the system that we are indebted to. Everything goes up, then many of us work longer and harder to keep up.
This is what is driving too many 18-35 year olds into accepting the idea of socialism as the cure to avoiding what they are seeing their parents and grandparents going through.

I will never forget all the short sales and job losses in 2008.

Groceries are insanely higher than 2008.
I did a Google search to test this theory. According to Google, adjusted for inflation, $100 worth of groceries today are less expensive than they were in 1970, 1986, 1996, 2006, 2008, and 2016.
(And those were just the specific years I asked about, the years in between weren't exceptions).
2008 was higher than today by the biggest margin, closely followed by 2016.
When you say "insurance," I don't know if you mean health insurance, auto insurance, homeowner's insurance, or what, so I can't run that comparison.
Same with "taxes." What kind of taxes are you referring to?
Utilities are more expensive, but it matters greatly when you want to compare them to as to how big the margin is. They are only 4% more expensive than in 2008 and 3.6% more expensive than 2016 and 5% more expensive than in 1986, but they are 25% more expensive than in 1996.
Big difference between Bill Clinton's America and Donald Trump's America for utilities, but not a big difference between now and ten or 20 years ago.
Rent is more expensive today and it's the only thing I can compare with the information you gave that follows a linear path. In other words, the farther back in time you go, the bigger gap there is.
But even then, it's still under 10% difference compared to 2016.
I have posted this (along with the numbers and facts to back it up) a dozen times. Y'all are falling for a populist victimhood narrative with this "affordability crisis."
There are three things that have skyrocketed out of proportion to inflation since the 80s or so.
1. Health insurance
2. College tuition
3. Home prices
And even that last one is mostly bullshite because there are two factors that everyone ignores when giving those numbers: average interest rates on the mortgage and the actual size of the house.
When you factor those things in, yeah, it's still more expensive to buy a house today than it was in 2006, for example, but not by as much as you think. It's only 3.9% more expensive per square foot than it was back then.
It's a LOT more expensive than in was ten years ago (about 33% more), but that's because interest rates have been so low for so long.
If you compare it to the 80s, for example, it was MORE expensive per square foot by 27% in 1986 and it was more expensive by...wait for it...wait for it...86% more expensive than in 1981 when interest rates were over 16.5%.
And even with those three things conceded, Americans are still buying houses at roughly the same rate—so the price isn't keeping more people from owning—PLUS a whole lot more people are going to college than they were in, say, 1980, by, like a factor or four or five, even MORE people have health insurance than they did back then, and the data says we STILL have more disposable income left over after we pay for all of those things than we did back then.
The "affordability crisis" is manufactured. Don't believe me. Look up the data yourself.

Just paid $4/gallon. If I recall correctly, that’s the most I’ve paid per gallon for gas since 2022.

I didn't even buy my electric car for gas savings but I guess I timed it pretty right since I bought it early this year LOL. So I guess I'm just going to watch the gas go up and drive by the gas pumps slowly to tease them

And pretend that they didn't incessantly whine about cost of living issues during Biden. And also pretend that they didn't say that Trump was going to improve all of the cost of living issues.
Now they pretended like they never cared, actually wanted war and you're just poor for pointing out how fricking stupid they are.

I voted for Trump and I don't pretend any of these things. But I would still vote for him a billion times over Kamala Harris or really any other person even capable of getting the Democratic nomination for president. That hasn't changed
