Honestly the ingredients for the problem occurred much earlier and Alexis de Tocqueville about pretty much nailed it and saw it coming. He just didn't understand that it was going to go beyond just the United States

I've never really liked the objectively right or wrong arguments that come from religious people in this area because frankly they do the exact same thing but just pretend they aren't. There really is no difference between the two points of view. Both are really just humans coming to a conclusion regarding what's right or wrong. But one group of humans says because God said so. It's still a human conclusion not the least of which because even God didn't always say so. Yes we have the Ten Commandments but we also have a whole lot of actions that seem to provide exceptions. Either way it really is just human logic being applied with one side thinking they have a trump card of because God said so
To me the problem with the plea in this case is that even if you assume everything her attorney claims is true there's a massive problem. To hear supporters of her talk you keep hearing the husband should have known and not left her alone. The medical professionals should have known and protected the children. The mother should have known and done something! And then they will tell you that she tried to tell them multiple times that she had these terrible thoughts. Well there's a problem here. That means that at least multiple times she had enough sense in her head to recognize her own self as a threat to the children. I don't know about the rest of you parents but if I woke up tomorrow morning genuinely contemplating killing my children it would take me milliseconds to make phone calls to get my children separated from me. Because they are the priority. Hayden Panettiere actually did this because as fricked up as she was she had the good sense to protect her child. So frick this bitch

A two for one! Another example of police thinking the law doesn't fricking apply to them and of how ill advised it is to adopt children out to gay couples
I am atheist and have been conservative forever. I think we're a lot more common than people think
Marrying your first cousin isn't cool because it's icky. But that's about the only reason because the genetic argument is extremely narrow at best. But marrying your first cousin at age 18 doesn't come anywhere close to marrying some poor little girl who's 13 that you adopted! Especially when they'll even make exceptions for that age limit!
