This week I quit buying Canadian bacon and whiskey to fund gas purchase

Well, I am not poor and have never looked at gas prices ever.
This is so dumb.
It is.
The Gas Price thing matters so much as a consumer confidence/economic indicator because it is screamed in giant numbers on signs everywhere... everybody sees it. Few people check out the stock market reports every day, or the mortgage rates if they aren't looking for a house, but the price of gas is in their face all day, every day.

My bro, some folks don’t quite use the price of gasoline as the measuring stick of life that some amongst us do. It’s true, I’m telling you. They’re out there.

I spend lots of money on dumb shite. Gas getting where I need to go isn't one of them

It’s just the cost of doing business, amirite? Whether your business is business, or whether your business is pleasure.

I figure I would have to do something different if it got to $6-&7.

Rich people do not throw money away in my experience. They are often times the hardest people to get money out of.
And they want free shite all the time.
Also, it's not so much the price of gas that is the issue as much as it is the reason why the price of gas is what it is.

I’m lucky. Even living in Houston area my life is pretty contained. Luxuries are what would get shut down. Travel and definitely any travel involving flights.
$5 a gallon is where everyone loses their mind. Everyone hunkers down and stays home.

Why not just go directly to the thing that’s influencing its price though?
But I can find agreement with some of what you’ve said there.

I remember hearing how so many had to adjust during the Biden years. It was either eggs or gasoline, then. Forget milk. Times were very tough for so many Americans. The MSM said nothing.
