Or could be of recent memory say of the 21st Century.

Was reading that Huey Long deducted 10% directly from the salaries of state employees, framing it as a "voluntary" contribution to his political machine.

Work heavily in the coastal engineering industry. People have no idea the level of corruption that went on with cancelling this between Landry, Nungesser, Gordy Dove, and the Oyster Mafia down in Plaquemines Parish
