I fish that area regularly. Hot dogs cut up then doused with red jello powder never fails.
I normally use jug lines in the shallower canals. Have also had luck with limb lines and live perch on both sides of the canal that goes to Bayview off the Amite.

Got a pair of 1911 Springfield's. 9mm and .45 - both go bang every time.
Recently picked up a MAC 2011 - 20 rounds of 9mm flush mag - 26 in the extended and she is a fine shooter also.

Similar. Still make a hunt and fish out there every now and again. But joined a lease 20 minutes from the house. Way more convenient.
