I think it's even more weird than that.
I think it goes back to the CJ McCall song and the movie "Convoy". The CB handle of the main character was Rubber Duck and he drove a jeep.
Which would have been a stupid choice of vehicle to lead a high speed convoy.

I've owned 3 Jeeps over the years and this duck nonsense bugs the shite out of me. Like most other nonsense, it was started by some chick. I don't personally give a shite what people do with their own Jeeps, but I don't want to get associated with it.
Anytime someone gives me one, I just politely decline or give it to my neice.

These newer jeeps are mostly for females. The duck thing started a few years ago by some high school females. The late model highway convertible wrangler is a young female vehicle. They think that's cool like a barbie vehicle. Most grown men that own jeeps own them as second vehicles, not daily drivers and they don't finance a new or late model jeep for the highway they pay cash for a used one.
