It's not even just the phones, everything from that era was better. We had No Limit, Cash Money, 99-06 Chevys, and women without flower sleeve tattoos.

At first I thought this was a blowhard comment, but the more I think about it, you're right. I'd think differently about someone wearing a knockoff watch than someone wearing the real thing or even someone wearing a Timex or Fitbit. The real watch guy is the real watch guy, the Timex guy is secure in himself, and the knockoff watch guy is a fraud. You're totally right.
