A-pillars have gotten larger with the roll-over regulations.

Plus the backwards rake (for aero and looks and mpg) makes the A-pillar take up more visual space.

My 2013 F-150 sightlines, esp over the hood, are worse than those that were on our 2002 F150. The 2013 feels and drives bigger.

This is true. I looked into full size sedans available today, and they are limited to luxury models. Other than older used models, Toyota Crown is the only standard type option that I’ve seen available new. Yeah, I’m one of the poor according to the OT.

A few points:

1. The poster who mentioned earlier that newer trucks have more pedestrian-friendly front ends was correct. This is a regulatory requirement. The a-hole who replied to him is the ignorant one ITT.

2. Sight lines worse? You don't say? Sight lines are worse in ALL vehicles compared to vehicles of just a generation ago. Drive a 1990's Jeep XJ Cherokee, or Ford Explorer and then ANY modern car, truck or CUV/SUV. You feel like you're driving down the road naked in the old Jeep, or in most similar vehicles from that era. Rollover regs, curtain airbags, emissions regs (no, I will not explain that to you, it would take pages and you'd still not understand), and yes, PEDESTRIAN SAFETY REGS have limited sight lines. The latter tends to raise hood heights and requires clearance under the hood to make the hood a "crush space" for people, which raises the hood even further.

3. F250 class vehicles should not be a part of the conversation. F250 is 10-15% of F-series total sales, yet it's what you whiners and the NYT want to focus on. Very, very, very few of those F250s are sold to people who don't actually need them to do F250 things - towing and hauling. They cost a lot more, ride like a rock and suck fuel in comparison to the vastly more common F150. So just stop. 250 and 350 class trucks are the mainstays of every type of contractor you can name, and it is beyond retarded apartment dwelling city dweeb ignorant to discuss banning them from urban areas.

While most people walking or bicycling who are fatally struck by a motorist are initially struck by the front of the vehicle, large trucks make up the highest percentage of right-side impact and rear impacts in pedestrian fatalities (NCSA, 2023c).

I think when you compile all the data and look at it fairly the rise in purchase of trucks and SUV's is just one of several factors . The size of vehicle makes the impacts more deadly......the distractions make them more often. Or something along those lines.
