did the article ask the question of how many people were saved in vehicle on vehicle accidents bc they were in a large SUV or truck and not a small sedan? somehow i doubt it.
i didnt read the whole thread, i'm sure someone else already point this out. so infuriating how obvious their agenda always is.

Why didn't they compare new trucks to older trucks and not small sedans and suvs, or new Sedans to older sedans. It's a hit piece on pick up trucks... Compare the newer sedans to this...
Exactly. Americans always wanted big heavy V8 rear wheel drive comfortable vehicles. When sedans stopped fitting that description consumers switched to SUVs and pickups

Exactly, the deadliest thing on the road are too many idiots with a legal or illegal driver’s license.

Back when cars were larger, trucks were smaller.
Now that cars are smaller, many feel the need to have larger trucks.
Then as more people feel the need to have larger trucks/SUVs, they notice everyone else does too - so they need even bigger.
Pretty soon we will all be in Medium and heavy duty trucks...

I've downsized my truck to a mid size and it seems everyone else has upsized

But around 2009, the trend reversed. Since then, the number of pedestrians killed each year has risen by about 75 percent.
Yeah, staring at your phone and walking into traffic isn't going to work out too well. But blame it on big trucks instead of morons earning their Darwin awards...

Most other wealthy countries haven’t seen similar increases, suggesting that possible culprits like smartphones don’t tell the whole story.
What those "wealthy" countries that never had larger vehicles in the first place and have made even owning and using the miserable little scraps of pot metal they call a sedans their so onerous that people that would drive have largely given up? Only thing truly baffling is who gave these low-IQ dolts calling themselves researchers the funds to conduct this hit piece.

Today, S.U.V.s and pickup trucks dominate the roads. Many are bigger than ever.
And far deadlier, a New York Times investigation found.

The driver of the tanker truck wasn't paying attention and smacked my parents' stopped car, sending it plowing into the autorack. The upper rack of the trailer was 2 feet away from going through the windshield and decapitating my mom.
Glad she's okay. She has an angel on her shoulder

The biggest trucks always seem to park on the end and corners of rows, making it incredibly hard for oncoming cars or cars leaving nearby parking spots to see each other.
I think this is a huge part of it. A truck or large SUV parked in the last spot near an intersection is a wall for both a car and pedestrian approaching the intersection.
Large trucks and suvs parked too close to an intersection should be towed with no remorse.

And once again this is the fault of government. Trucks above a certain weight are exempt from Cafe fleet standards. So build it bigger and get the gov off your back. Its why ram was split off from dodge. Made it easier to make the café requirements

Correct. The key that all the truck advocates are missing is that the large vehicles have huge blind spots which lead to pedestrian accidents. Accidents with large vehicle lead to higher change of death as the person is pushed under the car and run over. It's common sense.
An experiment was performed in Kansas City in 2019 with 18 kids sitting in front of a Yukon Denali and none of the drivers could see the kids. LINK
The large blind spots and the fact that a collision with a large truck/suv is more likely to be fatal is a problem.
The trucks/suvs are simply too big and are a hazard for everyone.

They are killing thousands of pedestrians who otherwise might have survived.
what's their criteria for "otherwise"
had they not been hit at all?
had they been hit by a Geo Metro?
had they received a glancing blow from a guy on a skateboard?

You are being needlessly edgy.
It is quite simple and explained in the article that none of you read. The truck bros got all in their feels because someone dare point out that large trucks are unsafe.
Large vehicles are deadlier due to taller hoods and larger blind spots.
If an adult is hit at 20 mph by a Camry, they likely roll over the hood and have some broken bones and bruises but aren't dead.
If an adult is hit at 20 mph by an F-250, they are pushed under the hood and run over and killed almost instantly.
Why is this concept so difficult for some of yall to grasp? lmao.

The biggest assholes that I encounter on the roads are jacked up/modified trucks. The lot.

This happened to a guy I know in his Corvette. Truck jumped over the wheel well and crushed the top and driver pillar. Dead.
