No. 1 Texas Survives Late Tennessee Rally To Escape Neyland Stadium With 20-17 Win

No. 1 Texas survived a late Tennessee comeback to escape Neyland Stadium with a 20-17 win over the No. 14 Volunteers on Saturday afternoon.

Texas led 10-3 at halftime and carried a 13-10 advantage into the fourth quarter before eventually stretching the lead to 20-10.

Tennessee answered with a late touchdown and then recovered an onside kick, giving the Volunteers one final chance to tie or win the game. However, the Longhorns' defense shut the door to preserve the three-point victory.

Texas' pass rush was the story of the game, piling up 10 sacks against Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon. Colin Simmons led the way with five sacks, tying the Texas single-game record.

Arch Manning completed 14-of-19 passes for 201 yards with one interception as Texas managed just 262 total yards. Brandon threw for 145 yards and a touchdown while Tennessee finished with only 221 total yards.

The Longhorns improved to 4-0 with the victory, while Tennessee suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 3-1.
