I was in a wreck in 2016 in our Camry that my family all walked away from but I believe we would have avoided it all together had I been in my Tundra due to visibility.

They should grade the driving test on a letter scale.

F - current fail. Get a bike. Not an e-bike.
D - current pass. Can drive a moped or a golf cart.
C - Target top 50% of current drivers. Can drive a sedan.
B - Target top 20% of current drivers. Can drive a truck/SUV.
A - Target top 10% of current drivers. Can drive 18-wheeler.

If you get caught driving above your allowed vehicle, you are summarily executed with your corpse left on the side of the road as a warning to others.

This is dumb. Only because my wife would land in the C Group which means I need to always drive the SUV around with the 3 kids

Dude is exactly the kind of fool who would fall for the “buy your spouse a Lexus for Christmas and put a giant bow on it” marketing.

As someone who walks across a busy road weekly in a crosswalk most drivers do not check to the right before turning and will run you over.

Also, it's common sense that the giant trucks of the 2020s will kill you if they hit you. If a jetta or civic hits you in a cross walk you are likely to go onto the windshield.

Why are you fat fricks so insecure that you need a jacked up $100K truck to not do trucks things in and commute from the suburbs to your office to post on TD all day? lmao.

100% of drivers were also found to have high concentrations of oxygen in their blood. Leading democratic lawmakers to consider legislation which would serve to curb this alarming statistic.

The science is settled. Now, humanity must catch up with reality before it’s too late.

Glad to hear you're ok, baw

My old folks got into a pretty bad one last weekend involving an autorack and a tanker. The driver of the tanker truck wasn't paying attention and smacked my parents' stopped car, sending it plowing into the autorack. The upper rack of the trailer was 2 feet away from going through the windshield and decapitating my mom.

Thankfully both of them are OK, but over a week later and they are still pretty badly shaken up - not sleeping, etc.

Dang... Sorry to hear that. Glad they're physically OK. That stuff can really mess with you.

To be fair, the size of trucks today is ridiculous.

Lost all credibility right here.

NYT has been bitching about SUVs since forever. Lazy journalism pushing the same old tired crusade.

Did you read it?

The surge in pedestrian deaths has baffled researchers. Most other wealthy countries haven’t seen similar increases, suggesting that possible culprits like smartphones don’t tell the whole story.

Yet not one word of how stupid pedestrians are with Jay walking, or failure of people regarding crossing signals.. I see it all the time...

More pedestrian deaths so it must be the vehicles fault..

As Ms. McAlister was crossing the street, a Ram 1500 TRX — a pickup marketed for its off-road capabilities and fierce-looking design — was turning left.

Seriously...

You would instantly cripple shipping in the US if you think the top 10% are driving 18 wheelers

Do you not think the authors thought about this when conducting the study? lmao.

My only real problem with them is that the propensity for the drivers of the big trucks and SUV's are some of the worst drivers with the worst situational awareness out there. The biggest trucks always seem to park on the end and corners of rows, making it incredibly hard for oncoming cars or cars leaving nearby parking spots to see each other. Then you have the tiny women in their huge SUV's where they can't even see over the dashboard or maneuver such a large vehicle to save their life.

I think they are starting to get too big in general as they really aren't fitting into what they need to be fitting into anymore, but ultimately don't have an issue with them existing. Moreso just the type of people that gravitate towards them, suck on the road.
