We counting all the money lost due to violence in BR such as armed robbery?

I think it evens out.

It certainly won't go to police.

BRPD is a fricking joke. This is yet another tactic used to deflect the massive ineptitude and lack of will to actually solve the crime problem.

Every solution is "more programz" (sorry NIH)

We should build more jails and put more people in them

East Baton Rouge desperately needs a new jail, but the funding would have to be approved by voters, and there is no way this parish is going to vote yes to a new jail, even though it would greatly improve the living conditions of those in it.

I've never seen a gun violence. What do they look like?

That press conference just confirmed what I already suspected: We are just one step closer to either hiring mercenaries, or ceding this Godforsaken place to the vermin who continue to ruin it for all who believe in civility.

BRPD administration is a joke. The officers themselves, well, the few who haven't quit, are pretty solid, they just have no support.

I would love to know the first step involved when throwing millions at “gun violence”

The women’s prison will be moving to its new location sooner or later.

The parish prison could probably get the grounds for its use. And it would make visiting day go quickly given where the new neighborhoods are going up out there.

Violence is a function of a person's upbringing and a behavior issue.

This is only true for a minority of shootings like serial killers, road ragers, and cuckolded romantic partners. Most shootings in places like BR are a biproduct of black market activities. Black markets do not have courts and lawyers and arbitration sessions to settle disputes. As a result, black markets are ruled by force, and violence is often that force. The free market absent the rule of law is organized crime. Organized crime is governed by violence, and fear.

Most of the gun violence in America is not related to “behavioral issues”, but rather to black market economics. Pretending that all of these murderers just “weren’t brought up right”, “need more after school programs”, or what have you ignores the real issue. The violence will exist so long as there exists a black market to meet the demands of consumers. The solution, is to run the cartels out of business or force them to go legitimate by ending the prohibition on those products the public is demanding. You can try to reduce demand by helping addicts beat their addictions, but the only solution to cartel violence is to force them to compete with legitimate businesses.

Guys, it’s really pretty simple. We have to deploy a “holistic” approach to fix this crime problem because actually being tough of crime is racist

Reminder: The city of Baton Rouge doesn't pay for LSU's football coach. Gun violence in the city needs to be addressed by the shitty mayor.

Discussions around college athletics spending also heated up last year after LSU football paid Ed Orgeron $17 million to go away, then signed a 10-year contract worth $100 million with Brian Kelly, making him the highest paid coach at a public university in the country.

Lulz. Discussions heated up

Not all those 170 murders are drug related.

A number of them happen BECAUSE those shitheads decide that shooting anyone who doesn’t give them the proper respect is the solution.

Raising people to believe that they are owed respect and are right to beat or shoot people who don’t give it to them is a huge fricking problem.

You could spend 10 times the amount for the next 10 years and it wouldn’t do shite. The problem is the ppl committing the crime and community they live in don’t give a damn.

Hey, let's take $20million and throw it into a pot so we can increase the incentives to have more fatherless babies!

YESSS says the voters!

This country is doomed. Our population has grown so that the takers outnumber the makers. Glad I'm old.

Youngsters, prepare yourselves.

Let’s say we gave BRPD 50 million more in their budget every year, how exactly would that prevent crime? Even if you hired officers whose sole job was parking on the most dangerous streets in the city, crimes would still take place there or elsewhere.

We need to call on the members of our underserved faith communities to plan an action committee in order to study the creation of an equity task force to target solutions for our at risk communities while focusing on transparency and diversity.
