Not if you live near Asheville. They all drive Subarus. It's like a uniform or something to them, as if the butch haircut and hundred bumper stickers proclaiming their sexual preferences weren't already a dead giveaway.

Makes no sense for Cadillac to be below Chevy or Genesis to be below Hyundai. They are just the luxury versions of those vehicles.

All it would take is extra issues with additional systems/sensors/etc….

Or perhaps higher expectations for a "nicer" vehicle.

I call bullshite on this list. Neighbor (who is a lesbian ironically, and I've posted about her before) has a 3 year old Subaru SUV that has been straight pouring smoke out the exhaust for like 4ish months; borderline smoking out the entire street anytime she cranks it up. She's been just driving it and keeping the coolant topped off because the dealership keeps "waiting on parts" or "oops, ordered the wrong parts" or something along those lines.

She's said never, ever again will she buy another Subaru.

Serious question...what happens if you own a Rivian and the company goes under and you need service on the vehicle? It's not like any old garage could work on them. I assume it's dealership only? Same question would apply to a company like Lucid.

I would have never guessed that EVs were that unreliable compared to ICE cars.

So your anecdotal evidence of exactly 1 vehicle out of 100,000s built a year changes your opinion?

Shite it could be user error for all you know

that's the least of your worries. Likely once the cloud controlling the vehicle gets mothballed it's only a matter of time before your vehicle is bricked altogether.

I can almost smell the homebrew GitHub where owners have created alternative software to keep the vehicles alive long after the company ceases to exist.

Imagine trusting your life driving a vehicle that is now kept alive by former reddit users who are "contributing" to open source vehicle software.

"Warning: only install the beta version on your vehicle if you are ok with dealing with untested firmware that may cause your vehicle to randomly accelerate to 120mph"

Sounds like the 4th circle of hell

My experiences with cars in the last 20 years is it’s always the electronic add ons that are having problems.

Subaru's boxer engines are anything but reliable, nobody with an IQ above room temp takes CR ratings on anything seriously.

I disagree with this take. I am thinking you are referring to their Turbo engines, which are known to have issues. As far as the regular boxer engines, we currently have a 2010 Subaru Legacy with 200,000 miles and going strong and 2019 Subaru Outback with 110,00 miles and running great as well.

Well I could be wrong but I think Rivian is an old old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era

Being less reliable than jeep is impressive. Those things are rolling piles of shite.

This is the huge issue. To my knowledge, Rivian doesn't have a backup servicing agreement to keep their systems up and running in an insolvency event. Tesla and others do because it was a requirement for most of their financing.

You realize those are the luxury versions b/c they add a whole bunch of tech that can break right? Power moon roof, extra entertainment screens for passengers, massage chairs....

Also, what do you think will last longer? Power or manual seats? Power or manual trunk? Analog buttons or haptic buttons?

New Subaru sales in West Virginia annually trail only Toyota sales from import marques.

My brother (& wife, no pics) have always lived there and have been driving Subarus exclusively since the 1990s.

However, how many recalls are on it?
