There is no correlation between the size of a diamond and love. There is however a relation to materialistic bitches and divorces.
Carlos you are not wrong. Most women's first ring isn't a huge rock for many reasons but as peoples income typically increase over time, older women tend to have larger diamonds due to upgrades and or remarrying older men with higher incomes. You could tell her that later in life, if you all are financially well off enough meaning no debt and are set up for retirement after kids, then you would consider an upgrade. If she doesn't understand that and believes her needing a bigger diamond to flaunt around town is more important, then you better start planning for the big D now because she gonna get that ring along with another D from someone else named Jody.

She then explodes and starts turning it around like I said that I would buy my 2nd wife a bigger ring than the one I bought her.
Well, you did say this in a roundabout way. Double down on it and tell her point blank that if she doesn't calm down about shiny baubles the second wife will get a bigger ring. And a Mercedes. Then make some popcorn.

She wants a pearl necklace

Wow. I am a woman and I'd like to slap the crap out of her. I dislike materialistic people. And it was disrespectful towards you.

Yes...she's being selfish and disrespectful

Tell her that your friend The Torch's buddy bought his wife a 10K diamond ring so she could go around bragging.
He's now living in a trailer house and she ran off with his business partner.

Explain to her that the ring is worthless. If she doesn't believe you, tell her to buy one and then immediately go try to pawn it. Jewelry is one of the biggest scams out there.

Not a good sign bro.... tell her the money for a bigger ring is going in escrow for attorney fees for the future divorce.

Sorry, but she should just be grateful and feel blessed to have a husband who loves her and makes her feel safe instead of throwing a fit over something materialistic and stupid.
A lot of good, decent women wish they had a great man to enjoy life with.
Highly doubt OP meets these qualifications

Is this materialistic "im a queen" mentality just an American thing?

Sadly, this is the answer that makes the most sense given the picture painted by the OP. I can certainly understand a woman being smitten with nicer jewelry and have no problem if she casually mentioned it in a playful manner. But it sounds like she was serious which only exacerbates the insult to you.
I’d start reevaluating your relationship and be open to some unpleasant and disconcerting possibilities. Then act appropriately if those unpleasantries are legitimate. Everyone changes over time. She may not be the same woman you married. Don’t get caught flat-footed if she has progressed on a different path than yours.

My wife has never been a diamond hawk. I bought her a cheap diamond band when we got engaged (poor) and not until recently did we buy a fancier setup.....and, get this: she opted for the smaller stone.
My wife is unique however:)
That said, we do need to get her Rolex serviced.

$10k is nothing in the diamond game......the situation the OP is mentioning breaches $30k easily.

I bet the other lady at the gym is much better looking.
At least in the eyes of your wife. A woman who sees another woman as uglier than her own self would not care anything that woman possessed, ring, house, or otherwise.

Yeah, $30k is just getting into the quality three carat or more diamond range. You can easily spend a hundred grand plus on a diamond that size.
