Foam rolling my calves, both front and back, every day. You’ll be amazed how your calves affect your feet. Baby them.

Shots in one foot and surgery on the other

Rolling the frozen water bottle under your heel/ instep will help with inflammation and pain relief but like a previous poster said standing with your heels hanging off of a curb or doorway will stretch that tendon. You do the same stretch if you get shin splints from not being use to walking. Also wear a boot brace at night to keep your toes from pointing down. That's why people wake up first thing in pain because your feet tend to point downwards when you sleep particularly on your back and this actually stress' the tendon. You have to get use to wearing it every night and it will help you heal.

Get some zero drop shoes. I really like the xero brand. Worked for me.

Tried everything, including some ‘sure things’ noted earlier, nothing worked until I was fitted with custom orthotics—not a single recurrence since then

Time and patience. The ice bottle water is good, if you can stand it wearing the boot at night helps a lot. Stretch it out often during the day. Don’t rush to get back to running.

1. Stretching
2. Injections
3. Surgery

Where did you go for this? There is a place in Baton Rouge (I forget the name) that’s supposed to be good but I heard they charge like $800-$1,000.

As others have said shoes and inserts. I’d also add do the Knees Over Toes workout along with stretching.

inserts.
Do the opposite of this. First, I would avoid flip flops at all costs. Then, walk around as much as possible while barefoot or in zero drop shoes.
You need to strengthen your feet, ankles, calves, etc not continue to add to an imbalance and weakness by masking the issue with inserts.

Why is "found" capitalized in your question?

Take Aleve. Wear this at night.

I’ve suffered with this for 15 years. It flamed up all the time doing the splints, and injections. Went to actual licensed physicians and after several visits basically told me to go to Academy and buy insoles. This was BAD advice and the Dr should have his head examined. Here’s what you do:
- Goodfeet Store on Corporate in BR. They have insoles that work along with Brooks tennis shoes.
- buy shoes that do not crumple when you push the heel towards the toe. If it crumples, do not buy it.
- while I would never recommend wearing crocs in public, around the house on hard concrete floors are an absolute necessity to function.
- the shots don’t work and an anti-inflammatory like Celebrex or Mobic might help (you will need a Dr for that part)
- stretch. Always always always stretch every single day.
- Twisted X brand boots / shoes seem to keep your foot aligned such that you can stand longer than other name brands.
- every foot is different. I can’t wear anything Nike makes or Converse.
- if you wear flip flops get some with arch support and dont crumple. They have them and yes they are $50. You’re welcome.
- don’t waste your time on Dr Shoals, or OTC inserts they don’t do anything.
- swap up your shoes every couple of days too that helps.

2nd that on the Twisted X
After getting right with my orthotics, just by chance I started wearing Twisted X work boots.
Surprise Surprise- no more PF pain.
So I’ll second that unscientific correlation!

Thong flip flops/sandals help me a lot by forcing me to constantly flex my toes to keep them on my feet. Thus constantly stretching that tendon. My feet feel way better in thong flip flops than in shoes, even shoes with PF inserts.
Just make sure they have some degree of arch support and aren't completely flat. I wear Reefs.

Number 1 rule is to never go barefoot ever. Never wear crocs or cheap flip flops. As far as brand of shoes to wear Hokas has been life changing for me.
