re: Super El Nino to bring most extreme weather since invention of printing press
Posted by Flyingtiger82 on 8/6/26 at 8:04 am to Fun Bunch
Peace out. I’m not doing Winter this year. Every year it gets worse and worse. I remember back 20 years ago the wood in my wood rack lasted all year and the fire was merely a decoration on the weekend. That power failures, generator maintenance and owning candles and alternate heat sources have become a thing now with its own storage area in my shop. That most people now not only have a generator and a backup (or whole home generac) but they have backup internet and most of their vehicles are 4wd. Most of us have invested in multiple chainsaws and added grapples to our tractors to clear the shear volume of trees and debris each year. And that’s just for the 3-4 days out of 4-5 years we have ice storms. But in the olden days decades ago we rarely had ice storms and multiple days of freezing temps.
It wouldn’t be so bad if we knew what specific week the Winter storm would be, but having to be ready from Christmas to Mardi Gras is unsettling. Let’s just pick a random day in late January or a February and agree on it. That way we can all get prepared for those few days of frigid like normal people and just fly to the Caribbean? It’s cheaper than all the winterizing / bullshite we have to do.
Last year we went through all that ice storm and it happened exactly 1 week before our trip to Cancun. The week we were down there, it was 80 degrees and sunny all week in Louisiana. That was inconsiderate as hell of El Niño or whoever, and I’m not dealing with him this year. I’m done.

I heard Brian Kelly played 40’s Big Band and Showtunes when he attempted to coach at LSU. Explains a lot.

Not from wherever Karr is so I’d have no idea about them. Where we live is ground zero of high school football and they all do cliche fireworks, inflatable tunnels, music, band lines, etc. I watched teams walk out, runout, some holding American flags and planting them in the middle of the field, I seen flaming torches, plastic swords, I’ve seen them all riding in the backs of pickup trucks, I’ve seen Ag Cat crop duster flyovers, helicopter football drops, sky jumpers land at midfield with the ball, rock concerts, I’ve even seen a tank drive up to the edge of the field. So whatever Karr does I don’t give a shite.
What would be cool for LSU? After pregame the team forms two lines near the goalposts of the North end zone, and the team runs out of the tunnel tapping the win bar just before. Then we beat the shite out of whoever we play.

2nd favorite was when we beat Bama in OT and stormed the field. Was my first until BK sucked so bad so … the Aggie Embarrassment Game- the Last One.

re: Why can't someone do year round baseball coverage?
Posted by Flyingtiger82 on 7/19/26 at 3:32 am to Islandboy777
Are you meaning college baseball? Because if so it’s not really very popular outside teams who are good. It’s barely televised. It’s a lot like women’s basketball and maybe soccer. It’s fun, it’s awesome, etc., but it’s MLB season so watch the Majors and be happy. Football season is soon upon us.

re: How far will the TV industry go with screen sizes?

For 8’ standard ceilings 196” is all you can fit.
240” for 10’ ceilings
294” for 12’ ceilings.
240” for 10’ ceilings
294” for 12’ ceilings.

re: How is Best Buy still open and operating?
Posted by Flyingtiger82 on 7/13/26 at 10:00 am to LivingstonLaw
Honestly I don’t want my TVs shipped and get destroyed. I can walk in and walk out with one and price is close enough.
Sometimes they are cheaper than Wal- Mart or Sam’s. And they usually either have what you’re looking for in stock or will have it by next day.
I have a daughter (no pics) in Miami in school who needed a new MacBook and she went to the Apple Store in Miami. The. Apple. Store. She picked out the one she wanted and it was a week away to get it. It was her birthday so I went online to try to buy it and same thing was a week away. I went online to Best Buy, they had the make model and color in stock in Miami. I clicked. She dropped in and picked it up. No worries. So they do seem to have a good inventory system.
Also now they have the scan and go type feature where you scan pay on your phone and walk tf out the store. Not a bad setup.
We already lost RadioShak which was a nice convenient place to to buy knock-off brand electronics and cheap as hell batteries. I’d hate to lose the blue shirts to Amazon or Wal Mart (like everything else).

re: Ever wondered how 2019 LSU would fair against 2011 LSU?
Posted by Flyingtiger82 on 7/10/26 at 1:39 am to MilkJug
If Les is still coaching the ‘11 team again and still plays that sorry no good Jordan Jefferson at QB then I think the 2019 Team bests them 14-0.
However, If I’m coaching (full disclosure : I have no coaching experience except 1 year as a flag football coach for 11 year olds where we went 11-1) and I’m a compete dumbass - the ‘11 team upsets the ‘19 team 7-3. Jefferson would never sniff the stadium, and the toss dive would be ripped from the play book and given to Jordan Jefferson to use to dry his tears. Jarrett Lee would take most of the snaps, some wildcat, some spread using OBJ, RR and Russell Sheppard extensively. I’d rely on Alfred Blue more than the others.
The ‘11 Defense was frickin nasty.
Now if Joe Brady was calling the plays on the ‘11 team I think that would change the score to more like 17-10.
With the exception of a drunken college party in 1993 and the first 1/2 of the WKU game, I haven’t missed a down either live, tv or radio. So I think I know enough to do this, still and unqualified dumbass FTR. I still stand by my prediction 7-3.
But in a vacuum on a neutral site with the teams who suited up and started and played in their respective natty’s the ‘19 team wins 14-0 with Les and Jefferson.

Cheapest bleach cleaner from wal mart, DG, etc. the cheapest spray cleaner. Then get 4 boxes of Mr Clean Magic Erasers. Spray, lightly scrub, rinse, as good as brand new.
re: Why do so many people have an iPhone?
Posted by Flyingtiger82 on 7/9/26 at 2:25 am to braves21
I use my iPad Pro all day with work. Goodnotes App lets me search the 1000’s of notes by names and can recognize handwriting. I can save each note in a customer file on my server. My texts on both iPad and iPhone and Mac are simultaneous and photos are on all devices at once. I use my AirPods Pro all day listening to music, on hearing aid mode (I’m old and deaf) take calls on both my cell phone and my desk/work phone through the VOIP app. The AirPods sync with both the phone and the iPad simultaneously. I can have music, hear better and take calls all in my ear.
Then there’s FaceTime. I probably use FaceTime for almost 1/2 of my calls. This is especially nice with grands, and children who live across the country.
My iPhone allows payments with tap to pay on the screen. (Androids may have this).
Microsoft might be the worst company, and by far the worst tech company in terms of tech support. They simply do not speak English as a primary language and it takes 20 minutes to get them up to speed with a tech issue. It’s buggy and my outlook crashes 5-10 day on my PC desktop. The outlook calendar will not integrate and/or properly share. 10 years ago we had to adopt iCal for our shared calendar and it never glitches. Ever.
The Android users have a far harder time using iCal but we found ways to get them on board with the rest of us.
Then there’s security. Safari doesn’t track you. There’s NEVER a virus and the mail app scans all your mail for viruses. You’ll never have a bug with Apple. Ever. Microsoft and onedrive is the most hacked least secure cloud servers there is. I could write a book longer than the Bible on the reasons I hate Microsoft but business requires PCs even tho I try to use my iPad and Mac where/when I can.
Then there’s the elephant in the room. Green Texters. My disdain for Green Text knows no bounds. Every single message to a Green Text is sent as an SMS text message like the 2005’s texts were. That message is pinging off a cell tower even if on WiFi it’s still leaving the message universe to become a phone call and then come back. It ruins family and work group texts. This means one single green texter now causes group texts to have to go find a tower and bounce back. And God forbid one member on the group has poor signal, that photo or video or text will take 40 forevers to finally get delivered. And if green texters send photos or videos they come as thumbnails and you have to download them before you can view them. Green texters ask us blue texters all the time what’s the problem? They don’t get it. Blue texts to other blue texters are instantaneous as in damn near live and in real time. Photos, videos, texts etc are right then. Plus you can still edit blue texts even after they’re sent vs the 4-5 follow up texts explaining that you fat fingered a word or two that make no sense as sent.
Did I mention FaceTime? I have a 3 year old grandchild who does not want to talk on the phone like 1985. They want to see us and we want to see them. There’s no way to FaceTime an android user.
So while I understand android folks like to use their phones as a computer but I seriously don’t need that. I use my phone to communicate. All that computer shite I use on my cheap-arse $300 PC.
I have had an iPhone since the day iPhones came out 6/29/07 and I have had every single upgrade since.
Sorry for long post but I’ve spent all day pinging copiers after having to swap out a bridge and the routers were not loving it nor the printers. Or rather the 25 PCs weren’t having it and I had to re-enter new IP addresses for everything. And the only devices in our office that didn’t require any of that? The iPhones. They still printed and never stopped. I know the androids aren’t PCs but most people who swear by androids make me to believe they are PCs.
For me and my office the Apple phones just work.

Miami 1988. - LSU had a decent team and the electricity was thick hanging in the air. You could feel it. Then the rain came! Not just rain but a monsoon. And we shite tge bed and get blown away.
Alabama 1987 - filmed Everybody’s All-American. During the game. The energy was off because of it. The rhythm was off and we lose.

I don’t know why but the movie was off to me. Maybe it was the mood I was in, but I never laughed the whole time.
It’s kinda like some people, like myself, love the Big Lebowski while others hate it. I think it’s just a you get it or not. And this wasn’t really a movie to get. But yea I agree with the OP cool take.

Everything you said is exactly what my son-in-law told me. I found CF Moto dealers in Monroe, DeRidder, Brookhaven, MS and Indianola, MS. I’m sure there’s plenty of others, but the parts availability was another chief concern.
And everything you’ve said about the Can Am’s I’ve heard before.

Hondas have by far the least maintenance issues out of any of them. They don’t give you enough power to break anything and design it to where you won’t enjoy using it, so the hours stay low.
That’s the funniest thing I’ve read so far.
I’ve had a Honda bike since 1983. I had an ‘84 125M traded for a ‘94 300; then traded for ‘00 Rancher; and then traded for a ‘10 Rancher that I still have. This last Rancher has been living inside my shop its whole life, and never ever been abused. But it has weird electrical issues, so I have to keep a battery maintainer on it or it won’t shift gears when I’m driving it.
I thought about getting another Honda but your choices now are either all automatic or foot shift, and they are nearly 10K. I have a tricked out lifted heavily modified Jeep that I only paid 11K for, and my Ranger I have almost 26K in it with all the upgrades and goodies. I just can’t justify it. But as for side by sides, when the Honda dealer points you towards the Polaris, you really have to listen.
