Because a significant subgroup, in our nation, has made national pride extremely taboo by demonizing the flag, anthem, and overall positivity about anything American. This group also has a strong soccer presence.

Probably because it hasn’t even started yet.

I'm excited. But the entire ticketing situation has turned people off to actually going.

And as poster above said. Most group games are complete dog shite with the expanded tournament.

× There will be a water (commercial) break in the middle of each half even in matches played in the north.
× Too many teams qualified there are countries few people even heard about playing.
× Finishing third in your group will many times be enough for playoffs.
× Water won't be allowed to be brought to the arena sold inside for $4 instead.
× A huge effort was made so no cash cow country missed out. Like second chance playoff. Italy still missed out and there's talk about them now getting Iran's place.

I know I forgot something. Even people here in Europe think it's a joke.

It’s okay to not like soccer, but this take is stupid.

Soccer is the only sport that isn’t hammered with commercials. You actually watch the sport instead of people standing around on the field waiting for the commercial break to end.

I will not be surprised if we see ads during drinks breaks.

They can do a side by side with one side showing players drinking water and the other side an ad.

Which is also related to hating the US.

Because soccer is boring to watch.

I mean you get 4 hours of commercials with football and get to watch a bunch of women abusers and criminals in tights.

Still 100x better than going to a football game, and seeing the players stand there and wait for the 4 minute commercial break to be done so they can resume play.

Every 5 minutes of gameplay, might I add.

i expected them to be expensive but shitty match ups are $1000

Not accurate ... i scooped up a pretty decent seat for $300 yesterday for a match at SOFI. Not the US, but still the world cup and should be an experience.

AMERICA DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE EFFEMINATE EUROPEAN "FOOTBALL" WITH ALL THE UNNECESSARY RUNNING!

They've been doing the hard sell since I was a kid. That's a long time.

Metric system? Naw, bruh. Soccer? Hell, naw!

Pride in your nation is looked down upon by the one world government and has been the case since Obama.

You can't be a proud American anymore because half of the country was raised to hate their country.

This is similar for a good bit of the 3rd world that has been told to leave their sh!thole country to come to the US by the Biden adm. All of those people were now unwanted in two countries.

So you cant say that pride in who you are an where you come from is wrong and then ask people to be excited about Croatia playing England because that is too much whitey right there. Or cheer for Japan playing Tunisia ( racist islamaphobe).

Is Brazil and Argentina safe, hard to say. One hates the US right now the other likes us but are they Latinx or not?

I’m not the biggest fan of soccer but the entire thing could have been hosted in one region/area - drawing significant interest.

LA/San Diego

South/Central Florida

DC/Philly/NYC

DFW/Austin/San Antonio/Houston

ATL/Nashville/Charlotte

All have enough stadiums/capacity to host to make this worthwhile for people to attend.

People were saying the same thing in 1994.

Soccer purists HATED that the US hosted back then. The international press and European/South American crowds were shitting all over FIFA for the decision and said all stadiums in the USA would be half empty for the games. 1994 turned out to probably be one of the best World Cups ever.

I think the difference this year is that ticket prices are absurdly overpriced. That will 100% impact turnout but I still think it will be more successful than a lot of people are predicting.

A lot of Americans want it to fail because they hate the President.

48 teams is way too many, the group stage is pretty much irrelevant

The chat in my friend group has been "Yeah tickets are insane but they'll go down closer to time" for months now.

Instead of getting excited, we've almost forgotten about it at this point
