Anyone born after 1990 was mostly told that they were the most amazing person ever who could make all the decisions in their life without consequences, every minor accomplishment was trophy worthy and they were just the most magical person - accept when they hit high school and college, if they were white they were evil and racist.

This created a sort of Dunning–Kruger effect where they now doubt everything and hate everything at the same time. They then become self loathing and the only way to fix this is to accept your horrible and strike out against the perceives cause and threat that caused this new reality, your parents and your country. Self mutilation is part of this to where you make your self horrid and ugly as possible because you deserve it.

Then you latch onto anything that will accept you even if it includes more self loathing.
