U.S. Capitol Police alert just now: “The USCP is tracking an aircraft that poses a probable threat to the Capitol Complex.”
Immediate evacuations ordered
Turned out to be the US Army Golden Knights parachuting into the Nats game.

I'm more concerned about their older ICBMs. Russia might develop some pretty high tech and advance new missiles but they do not have the resources of the time to build a lot of them. However, they have lots of older missiles which will eat up NATO's missile defenses fast. If Russia's Strategic Rocket Forces are on par with the rest of their military, I am not sure how many reliable nukes they have operational.
I don’t think we will get that lucky. Even if a nuke misses its target it still counts.

Yes they are getting Gripens from Sweden. Ukraine just has to assemble them in their home country like every other Swedish export.
Found those instructions.

I want really bad to comment how inept this is, but I simply don’t think we’re that inept after 9/11. I think they’re stoking fear.

The new Ukrainian government disbanded/outlawed them after Yanukovych was forced out or removed. They were Russians from Crimea mostly that were used by Yanukovych during the Maidan. The ones remaining in Crimea before they were outlawed went over to the Russian side when Russia invaded Crimea.Yanukovych also used them as snipers during Maidan. They shot many people down in the streets.
They were big time thugs.

Is this “war” still going on? Cliffs??

Well to be fair, I would rather the Capitol police recognize a possible threat due to poor communication versus not assume something they don’t know about isn’t a threat.

Key Takeaways (source ISW - LINK to ISW Full Report for 20-April)
- Russia’s offensive in eastern Ukraine secured minor gains in the last 24 hours, taking parts of the key frontline towns of Rubizhne and Popasna.
- Ukrainian forces reported the presence of small numbers of Syrian or Libyan mercenaries fighting in Popasna (eastern Ukraine), likely individual recruits fighting under the umbrella of the Wagner Group rather than larger units.
- Russian forces made incremental advances in Mariupol and continued to set conditions to declare victory in the city by –at the latest – May 9.
- Russian forces made minor advances around Izyum but have not secured any major breakthroughs.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his military to cancel plans to storm the Azovstal plant in the besieged Ukrainian port city of Mariupol... blockade it instead.
Source CNN
The Ukrainian Air Force has added about 20 operational aircraft to its fleet because of an influx of spare parts, a senior US defense official said. Without specifying which country provided the parts, the official said the US and other countries worked "to get them the parts they need to get them in the air."

That seems weird. It's not like that haven't already had a ton of losses and can't afford more. It just seems odd

Going to take a lot of steel to rebuild all the armor they lost.

Those civilians and soldiers trapped are basically hostages now. They can be used as leverage in a possible prisoner exchange.
However, it is impossible to believe Russia is a good faith actor in any negotiation. And with what happened in Bucha, there is no motivation for those trapped Ukrainians to surrender.

Impossible. We were told by the Russian propaganda team here that they were going to drown them all. This is obviously fake news.

Not that Ukraine wouldn’t target the bridge but it’s a free opportunity to insert worry and make Russia at least pause to consider (if not actually) committing assets to defend the bridge.
It’s what the Ukrainians should do in this situation.

Ya, people were going on about why aren't we sending Abrams over.
Uh, do you know how long it takes to become a proficient crew in an Abrams?
