Thomson surprised me there.

It's about what was done, which seems disproportionate to any offense. That isn't the rule of law prevailing. That is a single judge being vindictive for a political purpose.
She could have been remorseful. The judge factored that part into her sentencing. From the FAFO Files:
quote:
A judge ripped into a Colorado county clerk for her crimes and lies before sentencing her Thursday to nine years behind bars for a data-breach scheme spawned from the rampant false claims about voting machine fraud in the 2020 presidential race.
District Judge Matthew Barrett told former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters — after earlier sparring with her for continuing to press discredited claims about rigged voting machines — that she never took her job seriously.
"I am convinced you would do it all over again if you could. You're as defiant as any defendant this court has ever seen," Barrett told her in handing down the sentence. "You are no hero. You abused your position and you're a charlatan."

He looks like he’s holding onto anger. Just a simple observation. Didn’t realize this would be so controversial.

17 seems kinda young to be bottling up anger.
I think they’ve been trying to remove her case to federal court. Not sure that they will succeed.

The grand jury system actually works when a really shite case is presented.
Two straight no-bills is usually a good sign that it’s a shite case.
Looks like there’s a new Serif in town.
Reuters reporting that it’s believed that the crude oil tanker Skipper was seized.

British maritime risk management group Vanguard said the tanker Skipper was believed to have been seized off Venezuela early on Wednesday. The U.S. has imposed sanctions on the tanker for what Washington said was involvement in Iranian oil trading when it was called the Adisa.

re: US forces have seized a sanctioned oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela…

WaPo reporting
quote:
U.S. forces seized an oil tanker near the Venezuelan coastline Wednesday, President Donald Trump said, a significant escalation in the U.S. pressure campaign against President Nicolás Maduro and his country’s oil-dependent economy.
“As you probably know, we’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela,” Trump told a roundtable meeting of business leaders Wednesday afternoon. He described the vessel as “very large” and the “largest one ever seized, actually.”
“And, other things are happening,” Trump added. “So you’ll be seeing that later, and you’ll be talking about that later with some other people.”
Trump did not provide further details about the seizure, the tanker, its owner or where it was headed.
How many folks here would travel to a foreign country if they had to give up their TD.com screen name to enter the country?

In other words you are a news headline scanner.
I’d read it if I had a Bloomberg subscription.

It’s a boarding and “judicial enforcement action” of a stateless vessel. And that’s what all the narco trafficker sympathizers have been wanting from the start.
It’s not clear to me that this a drug interdiction action. I guess we’ll learn more though.

A stateless oil tanker? The sanctioned vessel I’m looking at appears to flying Singapore’s flag (even though it looks Russian owned).
Aren’t you always full of shite?
