Interesting thread

I was recently reminded of the cosmic calendar

Key Aspects of the Cosmic Calendar:
Creator and Popularization:
The concept was popularized by astronomer Carl Sagan in his 1977 book The Dragons of Eden and his 1980 television series Cosmos. It was later reused in the 2014 series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Time Scale Conversion:
At this immense scale, each unit of time represents a vast period of actual time.
1 second: equals approximately 438 years.
1 minute: equals approximately 26,000 years.
1 hour: equals approximately 1.6 million years.
1 day: equals approximately 38 million years.

Notable Events:
Major cosmic and biological events are placed on specific dates throughout the year.

January 1: The Big Bang occurs at midnight.
March 1: The Milky Way Galaxy forms.
September 9: Our Solar System and Sun form.
December 25: Dinosaurs appear.
December 30: The extinction event that wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs occurs.
December 31, 11:59:47 PM: The invention of writing and the beginning of recorded history.
December 31, 11:59:59 PM: Modern history, including world wars and spaceflight, occurs in the last second

Depends on how "Lower" you are...

Consider:

USS Alabama tour

or a drive to see these "famous" landmarks then grab a beverage at Pirates Cove

:dunno:

If it's decent enough for tropical tidbits to include it in analysis it's good enough for me as one source of info.

Meantime... prayers for residents of Jamaica.. looks like its going to be rough.

I can't imagine.
Weather nerds...

Just found this tool // website:

Fascinating insight into various model data sets

Did your mom leave you in car to run in to store growing up?

All the time.... and when visiting friends...

Let me tell you a true story; I'm about 8 yrs old at the time, sister two years younger.

Sister and I were left in the car, back seat, while mother dropped in to visit a friend.

Car begins to move forwards downhill, gathering speed towards an intersection.

I jumped into the drivers seat and began hitting every pedal I could.
Eventually found the brake and brought us to a stop.

Fun times! :pimp:

I really can't remember her face when she found us down the street.
Not a National Park... but a State Park...

The Valley of Fire in Nevada is amazing.

A short drive north of Vegas, for me it's a "must visit" every time I go to Vegas.

Fantastic views, canyons, petroglyphs.....

.. and if you just appreciate driving, the roads are terrific.
Keep an eye on your rear view mirror, it's a popular place for the local super car/bike community.

Do the full loop I-15 thru the park to Lake Mead and end up at the Hoover Dam

Its a decade old.

Not quite.. actually 12 years old and drives like a dream.. just turned 40k miles.

Sure, the infotainment is waaay past its "sell by" date and it may have a few minor dings here and there (only if you look real close).... but amazingly everything works, its just a damn nice place to be... and the V8 purrs and growls all at the same time.

It's a damn shame that Jaaaag has become what it has, same can be said of Lotus, MG, TVR and others.

What have I done?

Three weeks into ownership of this piece of junk

Very cool!

You described an awesome day very well.

Taking a car to its limits on the track is epic.

I had a track day gifted to me... Lambo Huracan at Speed Vegas...
One of the top 5 days of my life.

Thanks for sharing

Nice job!

I did the exact same kit a couple of years ago.
Messed up the yellow fuselage band.

Really struggled with the canopy

Did you get a mask set?

Here is my version

re: Have you ever almost died?

Yes...
Stepped out of front door, chewing gum...

about to do yard work....

Gum got stuck in my windpipe as I was walking down front steps.

Started passing out, felt like.. here we go, I die in my front yard..

Fell down steps, lying on the ground, things started going foggy and then suddenly with my last breathe coughed out the gum

Mowed the grass 10 mins later

All I got
I took a look at rtings....

Knowing what you want the laptop for is half the battle and narrows down your choices considerably.

Then as others pointed out, you can't beat seeing the laptops in person to assess screen and keyboard.

After that it comes down to price and your budget.

I ended up finding exactly what I wanted on Amazon, a Lenovo Ideapad Pro

re: Shingles vax: Yay or nay

Had chicken pox as a kid

Got a mild (but still painful) case of shingles on my back/side
Treated with steroid cream if I recall.

Got the two dose shingle shot 3 or 4 yrs ago.
Side effects mild

Get the shots

I’m told TCAS alerts are muted at low low altitude to avoid distractions

Sounds legit... heavy workload during finals....

Where is 777tiger?
Interested in how TCAS (Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance Systems) interact between commercial and military vehicles.

Certainly the regional jet has TCAS and should have received warnings, but only if the mil helicopter was also TCAS equipped and transmitting.
I use this $40 Llnk to Amazon connected via USB-C (Thunderbolt) to my work laptop (HP).

Peripherals connected to hub: keyboard, mouse, USB ring light and two 34 inch displays.

Hub also works with my Lenovo Ideapad laptop, same USB-C Thunderbolt spec'd port.
