I'm more concerned about their older ICBMs. Russia might develop some pretty high tech and advance new missiles but they do not have the resources of the time to build a lot of them. However, they have lots of older missiles which will eat up NATO's missile defenses fast.

If Russia's Strategic Rocket Forces are on par with the rest of their military, I am not sure how many reliable nukes they have operational.

Crappy news:

quote:

#Donetsk Axis Update - #Russians are still advancing on the town of Velyka Novosilka and have put the #Ukraine Armed Forces there under indirect and tank fire. #UAF is still holding the city for now. ???? is advancing west from the Makri Yali River and attacking Staromaiors'ke.

#Izyum Axis Update - #Russian forces are rapidly pushing #Ukrainian troops out of the town of #Rubizhne. The #Chechen and Russia flag have been raised on the edge of the town and #Ukraine is falling back. The sign in this video is the Rubizhne sign coming into the town.

quote:

Latest map of #Izyum Axis. #Ukraine needs to hold the town of #Rubizhne to prevent #Russia from starting encirclement of #Severodonetsk by cutting off primary logistics routes to the south. #Russia likely wants to isolate the city and UAF inside similar to #Mariupol.

quote:

The capture of #Severodonetsk would represent a much needed victory for #Russia. However, #Ukrainian Armed Forces have been determined to not sacrifice large population centers without a fight.#Rubizhne is the first step in the battle for #Severodonetsk.

quote:

#Russia has managed to capture the town of Stara Krasnyanka on the northern side, which solidified their hold on the north side of the Donets River. This will make recapturing the town much harder for #Ukraianian troops being pressured south of #Rubizhne and W of #Kreminna.

#Donetsk Axis Update - To the northeast #Russian forces have broken through #Ukrainian front lines in #Popasna and are making slow but steady progress through the town. They have already captured some police buildings and parts of the city center.

Not unexpected some initial gains. The Ukrainians have them right where they want them now.

Meh, it's the general ebb and flow of war. Russia makes some gains. Ukraine counterattacks and pushes them back. Also Ukraine needs Russia to move its forces into cities/suburbs because that makes the Russian forces more vulnerable to Ukraine's ambush tactics. It's not bad news until Russia encircles a city. Even then this part of the Donbas front is not like Mariupol. Once Mariupol was encircled there was only one highway for Ukrainian forces to advance along to either relieve the city or for trapped soldiers to break out of the city. There are three main highways and multiple smaller roads that Ukraine can use to advance on an attempt to attack to relieve an encircled Severdonetsk or for troops to breakout. The Battle of the Donbas is going to take weeks to months to be decided not hours or days.

Saw earlier that a humanitarian corridor heading west then north out of Mariupol was agreed to and now it sounds like the military will be included.

David Arakhamia????
??Mykhailo Podoliak and I are ready to arrive in Mariupol to hold talks with the Russian side on the evacuation of our military garrison and civilians.

Representatives of our delegation maintain constant contact with Ukrainian forces in Mariupol.

Today, in a conversation with the defenders of the city, a proposal was made to hold a negotiation round on the spot on the evacuation of our military garrison. For our part, we are ready to enter into such talks at any time as soon as we receive confirmation from the Russian side.

They cant coordinate movement;
They cant communicate in secret;
They cant resupply moving or forward units;
They cant maintain (mechanically) moving or forward units;
They dont know how to secure terrain they have already crossed;
They cant use coordinated air or artillery on a moving line because most of their vehicles dont have IFF.

The biggest problem? they arent paying their troops or they are behind on pay, not good for morale.

As an interesting aside, a Twitter account, Ukraine Weapons Tracker, posted a video on April 19 showing an Azov fighter in Mariupol firing a launcher that wasn't supplied to Ukraine until the end of March, suggesting that somehow the Ukrainian forces in Mariupol were being resupplied. Crazy considering the Russian encirclement.

Reminds me of a quote by a famous general (I don't remember which one though) when he was asked how he planned to get inside an impenetrable fortress. The general replied "Are you telling me that an arse loaded with silver could not find its way into that fortress?"

As is often the case, you overstate the facts.
I think your point is that the Russians have had difficulty being effective at these tasks. and that is correct.
But to suggest they cannot and will not, predicts, prematurely, in my view, the current struggle in eastern Ukraine.

Ok, what have you seen to date from the Russian ground force in Ukraine that would lead you to believe they can do those things listed? be specific.

Finally, Russia's test of the Sarmat ICBM was pre-cleared by the Kremlin with U.S. officials under New START treaty rules, even though Putin said the test would make the U.S. "think twice."

Anyone seen Winter on Fire? Those cops beat the frick out of the protesters. I haven’t finished it yet, but I wonder where the ‘Berkut’ are today? Did they head to the Crimea or Donbas?

Corruption is more or less culturally accepted in Russia. This goes back to the flaws of the Soviet Union; in a society where everyone is forced to be equal the only way to get anything is through pulling strings and bribing everyone. The wall might have fallen but the mentality didn’t, as evidenced by the current system of oligarchy. When that mentality exists at all levels of society and has existed for generations, it’s more or less impossible to uproot, it part of the fabric of who they are. This has been their undoing in the past and probably will be again, as nobody in charge is going to do what has to be done to uproot corruption since the entirety of their government benefits from it.

Are we talking about Russia or New Orleans?

Well seeing how the Berkut officers that you are referring to were from Crimea and Donetsk and screened to make sure they were pro Yanokovich prior to being sent to Kyiv. It’s a safe bet to assume that they went back to Crimea or Donetsk.
