You didn't see the cord on the spool as they were lifting off?

We went to the moon at some point, but those that believe what they saw on TV are just uneducated baffoons.

I'd expect that from an Aggie, but suit yourself.

NASA thinks we need to go back. In fact we are doing it in 2028.
We’re going back now to attempt to set up a moon base as a sort of launching point for deep space exploration. We’re not just going to go.

I love how the damn thing was basically made out of foil. Good thing nobody kicked a rock at it.

So damned simple......it confounds their feeble minds.

Also Forbes told us that we lost the technology and had to re learn it.
We didn't lose the technology or the know-how. What we lost was the means to create the technology.
There are two additional things you need in addition to hardware, tech, and manpower. You need money and the will to go.
Apollo was born out of a political and national will to beat the Russians in the space race. Congress dumped the billions needed to do it. Once it was accomplished, the fickle public got tired of it, and Congress acted accordingly to the public mood and cut NASA's budget. Despite NASA being a couple of drips into the federal budget bucket, it is a very public institution that is easy for politicians to point at and say "That's a waste of money! Cut it!"
So, the will goes away, and the money dries up. Apollo's leftovers are used for Skylab and ASTP. What are the thousands of contractors and manufactures of the hardware supposed to do? Hold on to the equipment used to build the Saturn V's, lunar modules, and CSM's "just in case?" Hell no. That's money down the pisser. Those companies adapt and move on to the next approved project, which was the space shuttle.
So the argument that "if we did it in the 60's, why can't we do it now?" We could have easily done it at any time, but we couldn't. Not because we didn't know how, but because industry had to dump the ability to manufacture the hardware, the money was not there, nor the will to go.
Remember: No bucks, no Buck Rogers.

NASA says we haven't touched the surface of the Moon since 1969?
Apollo 17 was late 1972, my guy.

Why do we need to explore deep space?

Darth - I hate to quibble with you, but this isn't correct. 7 flew on a Saturn IB. The first manned launch of the Saturn V was Apollo 8.

The government wouldn't just scrap something of that magnitude. We just casually decided to go to the moon then threw the shite away.

Why do we need to explore deep space?
For knowledge and to satisfy human curiosity. Why have explorers charted the unknown since the dawn of humanity?
NASA’s mission statement is literally to explore the unknown in air and space, innovate for the benefit of humanity, and inspire the world through discovery.

The goalpost continue to move. Because if we had technology in the 60s to make it to the moon before interent existed and I can sit here and communicate with you in seconds from a smart device connected to wifi in my house and Tesla has a flying car, then going to the moon should be easy.
Its funny how we could only go around the moon with Artemis 2.
No one is moving the goal posts, it's that they were never where you thought they were and you never looked to verify it.
Believe it or not, we had phones, radios and television broadcasts in the 1960s. Also in the "believe it or not" category is that television and radio signals can travel infinitely through space as electromagnetic signals do not break up in a vacuum. Guess what's between the Earth and Moon?
As a footnote to this, we still receive signals from Voyagers 1 & 2 even though they are billions of miles away (taking almost a full day for the signal to travel from one end to the other) and they were launched less than a decade after the moon landing.

Incorrect, the last time humans touched the surface was Dec. 1972 when theU.S. went back to the moon for the 6th time.

This nonsense reminds me of my Papa who wanted to watch the Porter Wagner show on Ch.10 in Lafayette.
He and his wife lived in Marksville and at that time cable TV did not exist. If you wanted to watch TV you had to have an antenna on a high mast outside of the house. And you could only catch Ch.5 in Ellick or Ch.10, if the wind was blowing right.
I was sent outside to turn the antenna so that the picture would come in clear and he would shout which way to turn through the window. I had just turned 4. He wanted to see the Porter Wagner Show because Dolly Parton was on it. A year later he had an auto motor turner installed.
Why all this diatribe ? How do you think Navy warships communicated with Pearl Harbor and D.C. during WW2 ? How do they communicate today? Satellites . Radio waves travel through space with ease. Goldstone ?
