This thread didn’t go as OP had planned.

I’m curious of OPs age

I go to Hooters on Siegen pretty often with my coworkers........

90% of the time there is a older white dude that stands near the end of the bar by the bathrooms.

Plenty of normal, productive adults have a drink before bed.

It's better than sitting alone in the car during rush hour.

As an only child, I'm used to eating alone. I go out on Tuesday here in Oxford, before the college kids come out and have a drink usually, go to my usual spot and watch some football and chat with the bartenders .

If I'm at dinner, I usually wear headphones to not listen to bratty kids being loud and having meltdowns and ruining my meal and experience .

I travel a lot for work also.. I would rather sit at a bar than go out to eat with people I have been at work with for 10-12 hours.

You have to be really comfortable in your own skin to do things alone. Some people are simply not comfortable at all, and require being a part of a group. I suspect the OP is this way. Which is fine, whatever. But don't sit there and criticize people who are ok being alone in a bar. There are a whole multitude of reasons why a person would be alone as others have listed. And then sometimes, maybe somebody just doesn't have anybody to go with and wanted to go anyway and is comfortable enough to sit there and drink. So what?

I would much rather hang out with that guy, than the one who requires a group.

I'll tell you who annoys me (and we all have this friend) - when you make plans to go somewhere, and he phones no less than 5 other people to come meet up. So instead of having a group of 2-4, now you have a large group because one person invited them all.

Yep. I saw an unattractive woman at the grocery store buying a cheap frozen dinner and two cans of cat food.

Hanging out at a hotel or airport bar by myself is a very underrated gift in life. Meet random people from different places doing different things. Everyone else there is in the same boat so there's no judgment that you're drinking at 1PM or by yourself or whatever. It's great.

I once went to the Indy 500 with people I met in a bar the night before when I was out by myself. I had just moved for my job and didn’t know anyone

I learned to never trust a man named Xander to be your designated driver. Other than that though, it was one of the craziest adventures I’d ever had.

I flash my private parts in your general, insecure direction!

This is me. My wife doesn’t like bars. I do. I have zero problems going sit in a bar and have a few drinks alone. There’s always someone to shoot the shite with. I drink at home all the time, so sometimes I enjoy the bar atmosphere.

Truer words have never been spoken. I really like my boss and coworkers, but if we're traveling together, I'd rather find a random place that I want to go to, not have to be "on", drink what I want, eat what I want, get there and leave when I want, etc.

Those old guys that sit at the bar by themselves may also be widowed and just looking to be around other people for a bit. And old people are creatures of habit.

Safe to assume that those guys have seen some shite and have some stories to tell. They're probably vets and put their arse on the line for 'murica, and could whip your arse if you gave them reason to get up, so show some respect and
