Is there a more sad sight? Me and a couple buddies meet up once or twice a week at our local spot and there are always the same two or three guys sitting at the bar just blindly starring at the TV.

Occasionally I'll try and start a conversation while ordering a beer but they look pretty depressed. Why not just sit at home and drink? Do they think the girl of their dreams is going to walk in at some point and save them? That the bartender will feel sorry for them and give them a bj?

Wish I could help. Must be a bad rut to be stuck in.

Don't feel bad for me while I'm there. Feel bad for me when I leave and have to go back to my family.

Maybe they hate their wife and spoiled kids and aren’t the abusive type.

Everyone has ways they deal with stuff. I don’t think it’s bad if he just wants to chill and drink.

sometimes I wanna watch the game in a place that isn't my house... sometimes they are running really good specials... I usually strike up fun convos with the bartender or others around me. don't find it sad at all

Maybe they are just comfortable by themselves in relative peace and quiet?

I'll occasionally stop at my favorite spot for a private beer after a big meeting or long day at work, and often the benefit is a transition between work and home. Just a few minutes of quiet beer time watching sports.

They're probably married guys trying to have some time to themselves for a little while.

They're just waiting for Amber, Blaze and Heather to finish their sets. I bet they laugh at you losers just as much.

I used to play piano in a bar in my younger days. I remember there was always an old man sitting next to me, making love to his tonic and gin. He would always ask me to play him a memory, but he never was sure how it went, but he did say it was sad and sweet and he knew it complete when he wore a younger man's clothes. There was a host of other characters that frequented the place. I even wrote a song about it, but that bastard Billy Joel stole it from me.

I travel for work so this is usually me and I fricking love it. When I am home, I have to deal with the wife and 3 kids. On the road, it is just me. I can sit at the bar, take my time eating, drink a few beers, and enjoy some me time.

Maybe they’re there because they have unbearable tyrants at home and kids jumping all over them.

OR

Maybe they just want to drink in peace because they’ve had hard days, and don’t want to hear a bunch of YAP YAP YAP YAP from some idiot that can’t understand why they would want to drink at the bar by themselves

OR

Maybe they don’t need to be surrounded by people because they are comfortable in their own skin.

OR

Maybe they would rather be alone than sitting with someone talking about some nonsense that matters very little in the grand scheme of things.

OR

Maybe you just need to mind your own damn business and focus on yourself, nosy.
