First time I lived in Houston, “the loop” was 610. Beltway 8 wasn’t quite one yet.
The Loop is still considered 610 and 99 is rereferred to just as that. I too remember when they opened the beltway 8 section between 59 and I-10 and the toll booth operators. They have already started planning for another loop outside of 99.
