It's one of the finest things in life.

There is a big dude that frequents one of my bars by himself. He is probably 6'-3 and 400 lbs and we end up sitting next to each other ever so often. I tried to strike up a convo one time and he just looked at me like he was going to rip my head off and shite down my neck. I don't talk to him anymore.

Agreed. There are some things in life though that youth saves you from. At 25-30 it still bothered me to sit alone at a bar. Which is probably a good thing. Now I am older and can do it less.

You have to reach an age where you give zero fricks. I have my usual spots here in katy. That 2-3 Beer sweet spot is nice during the day.

Now sitting for hours and getting sloshed and telling a hot bartender ridiculous things is not cool. One of my spots has this happen often. 50-60+ year old men telling 25 year old girls shite is creepy. Insisting on hugging them is creepy. That’s where I can agree with the OP that it gets sad. But a 2-3 Beer lunch alone is glorious at times.

Let's not get carried away with unnecessary justification, especially justification that is suspect at best.

Why not just sit at home and drink?

Who the hell wants to drink alone? At least at the bar, other ppl are around.

sometimes I wanna watch the game in a place that isn't my house... sometimes they are running really good specials... I usually strike up fun convos with the bartender or others around me. don't find it sad at all

Or just get some business done on your hand held computers known as iPhones. I get a ton of stuff done eating by myself, or having a beer away from the ringing office phones.

I love it. If a game is on or I want to watch some cool TV that my girlfriend won't, it's fantastic. Mix up some old fashioneds, hang out in this cesspool for a bit if I want to chat, it's great...

That's the key. 25 yo me probably wouldn't have pulled the trigger on this move. But now? Bars, restaurants, movies, etc., zero shame. There are places my wife doesn't like, or kids can't go to. Why should I deny myself?

I do shite by myself all the time. Bars, movie, vacations. If other peoples schedules don't line up with mine, why shouldn't I do what I want I do.

I like eating out alone so I used to enjoy traveling for work for that reason. Sitting at the bar, ordering a meal and some beer and just eating at my own pace

This is me on work trips. There is seriously nothing else to do. Maybe not hours, but if a football game is on or baseball (or any fricking sport) I sit and watch and drink some beer.
