I’ve stayed in two short term rentals this year…one in Fripp Island and one near a lake in OK…both areas were set up for STRs…Fripp island has virtually no one that actually lives on the island full time and the neighborhood we stayed in OK was brand new and the homes were all built to be short term rentals. We had a good experience at both.
I think this is where these things net out…places that are ok with it or built for it…the govt is going to keep making it harder in normal neighborhoods

Zoning is a violation of private property rights.

Not according to 100 years of US Supreme Court decisions. Additionally, local laws passed by almost every city in the US say otherwise. All zoning isn't great, but its legal, and I believe necessary.

It doesn't have any affect on your neighbors' quality of life when you get a ride from Uber instead of a regular taxi.

If you think the neighbors quality of life is what is driving restrictions I don’t know what to tell you. This is nothing more than govt trying to protect certain businesses from outside competition. The Uber fight was to nothing more than protecting the taxi cab unions and the nice lucrative hustle they had in place that created significant barriers of entry into the marketplace. The hotel industry has those same barriers of entry in place to go along with the labor unions. Air Bnb competition threatens union jobs built into hotel industry the same way it threatened jobs within the taxi cab industry.

Can’t have the wrong political type person staying in certain areas and those dang gentrificationers trying to make an area better!

frick off. I live 3 houses down from one and it's shite and has nothing to do with political leanings.

1 dude is some roid head filming tiktok videos, shirtless, in the street for hours at a time. He's a 'Merica, gun toting kind of guy.

The other dude living there is a skinny, crack head black dude that speeds around the neighborhood in his black Honda civic like he's Michael Andretti.

And the last dude got accused of jerking off in his backyard while the family next door was having a backyard party this weekend.

These are long term airbnb rentals, each with their own room in the house.

It was quiet until some dickhead Californian bought the house and turned it into an Airbnb.

i only do AirBnB/VRBOs for remote locations, lake houses, etc. if i'm staying a few days

Hotels are for transactional trips where i don't want to be anywhere longer than i have to be.

Sometimes government regulation is needed. If there were no regulations in place, CVS would have a pharmacy monopoly.

Explain how CVS could become a monopoly in a theoretical free market with no regulations or barrier to entry.

All of you celebrating this...do you understand you're celebrating BIGGER govt? MORE regulation? LESS freedom?

The same people that clap like seals when there is a knee jerk reaction to a 1 time event to take draconian legislative actions (mask up or jail) will applaud. There must be a new law with enhanced penalties rather than enforcing what we have already.

The air we breathe IS regulated, same with the water and the ground we stand on. There’s only an illusion of freedom today and that is fading quickly.

Yeah, I didn't say it was illegal. I just stated what he was accused of doing as people could see him, as little kids were swimming and running around the backyard.

Commercial real estate owners doing work. You must pay the hotel owners, or else….

So move, baw. I'll take living next to an airbnb all day long over living next to some permanent, a-hole neighbor

Did you miss the part where I posted these were long term rentals through airbnb? They've all three been living there for around a year so far.

Ah so they're LTRs and not STRs. So you're against both LTRs and STRs?

I never understood why neighborhoods were flipping their shite over Air BnB’s…until a few popped up in mine, including one across the street from me.

Having random people in & out the house just made me feel uneasy, especially since there’s all kinds of kids that play outside down my street including mine. I immediately thought of sex offenders & how that works with Air BnB’s. I found they do check the OFAC list but can’t guarantee sex offenders aren’t able to rent.

I hinted at it earlier and would think it's pretty obvious. A property that is strictly used for STRs is a defacto commercial property despite being in a residential-zoned area.

Except your article is for NYC. There's essentially no such thing as "residentially zoned areas" in large cities. Almost everything is "mixed use" in which you have a mix of commercial and residential areas together.

So do you think the government doesn't need to regulate anything? I guarantee you there are some things in your life that you enjoy better because of government regulation.

Conservatism should be applied intelligently, not as a blanket over everything.
