I have 3 brothers, so whatever remaining balance is left would be divided between us. Whatever I do, I have to do what’s best for him. I figure if I approach if from the standpoint of simply trying to maximizing the amount that we split after he passes, then I’m not acting in his best interest.

Not to add on to the somberness of one passing away, but you said your dad has his own life issues. Are you thinking it's a short time window until his passing, or is it manageable where you think he still has a 10-15+ year window remaining.

My dad has both MDS and Crohn’s disease. At his very worst he was down to 95lbs. Currently he’s back up to 115 and climbing with his appetite really improving and just overall better treatment. If you’d asked me at the first of the year I’d say it would be a miracle if he reached June, but now I’m much more optimistic. Certainly anything can change, but I’m thinking long term 5 to 10 years.

Life Insurance Payout

Long story short, my mom passed away a few weeks ago after a long battle with cancer. My dad who now lives with me because of his own health issues was the beneficiary of her life insurance policy. After funeral expenses and clearing up the very few debts my mom had, he has just over 100k in cash remaining from the payout.. In addition to that he receives approximately 4k a month in VA and social security benefits. He's 76 and debt free other than a few bills that total around 500 dollars a month..

what is the best way to protect his money for him, so that it's there to cover any unexpected expenses, or care that might arise in his final years? Should I move it to a high yield savings account or into a money market account or should I take a different approach?
This is why you can’t make a deal with them and why no deal made with them has ever been successful. You can’t negotiate in good faith with them. In order to move forward, you must finish the job!
Ok, I’ll say it. The biggest losers in all of this are the Iranian people. For weeks we’ve told them to wait and when the time comes take back their government. So now what? Are we just going to leave them at the mercy of the regime?
The hand wringing is silly. We are hitting something tonight but it’s not bridges and power plants. More than likely it’s the marines seizing key areas in the Strait of Hormuz and reopening it to shipping. Everybody is watching the left hand, no one is watching the right.

frick that! They voted for the idiots in charge, they should suffer the consequences. If they flee, catch them and send them back. Don’t encourage those roaches to infest other states

Jesus Christ, it’s just Trump intentionally leaning into the crazy role. If you’re panicking, imagine what’s going through the heads of the IRGC at the moment. It’s psychological warfare in the digital age.

Is this part of the negotiations?

It amazes me that after 10 years of Trump being in the political sphere that there are those among us who still fail to realize when Trump intentionally plays up the crazy lunatic role.. The psychology is simple, unlike the lunatics in Iran who hide underground and issue threats they can’t really back up, “lunatic Trump” can’t simply be dismissed. He has the most advanced military and weaponry in the history of the world at his fingertips. If he says Tuesday is bridge and power plant day, you have to believe he isn’t bluffing. On the flip side, you absolutely have to believe the IDF will destroy these things and not bat an eye.
As I pointed out yesterday, this country is somewhat unique in that it’s made up mostly of former English, French and Spanish colonies. The growth of the country had to deal with what are essentially citizens of a foreign crown suddenly being absorbed into the nation whether it was acquiring Florida from Spain, French from the Louisiana territory or Spanish and Mexican citizens within Texas. To me that is where the “falls under the jurisdiction of the United States” comes into play, because you literally had foreign citizens living in a new country overnight.. it was never intended to be this catch all umbrella for foreigners where as long as you spit out a kid here, the kid is a citizen.
I think issue, particularly the phrase “subject to the jurisdiction of the United States is rooted in the unique way the country was formed.

North America wasn’t a blank slate. It was divided among multiple colonial powers, primarily Britain, France, and Spain. The people living in those territories were subjects of those respective nations. Regions like Texas, Florida, and California were once populated by Spanish citizens, while areas like Louisiana were under French control.

This creates a natural question: what happens to those populations when sovereignty changes? When Texas gained independence, when Florida was acquired from Spain, or when the Louisiana Purchase transferred vast territory from France to the United States, the land changed hands, but the people didn’t suddenly cease being Spanish or French overnight.

That’s where the concept of being “subject to the jurisdiction of the United States” becomes important. It wasn’t simply about geography, it was about legal authority. For example, Spanish citizens living in Florida after it became U.S. territory remained who they were, but their children, born under U.S. jurisdiction, could be recognized as citizens because they were born under American legal authority.

Over time, however, this idea seems to have been simplified into the broader notion that anyone born on U.S. soil automatically receives citizenship. Imo this interpretation overlooks the original context, which was tied more specifically to questions of allegiance and jurisdiction following territorial transitions, not a blanket rule detached from those historical circumstances.
I tried warning people on here about this a few years back. My dad was 200lbs and the picture of health until the VA pressured him into getting the Shingles Vax. Immediately developed a case of shingles that lasted 3 or 4 months. Not long after that he developed MDS and lost 50lbs. At the end of 2024 early 2025 he was diagnosed with Chrohns disease which is highly unusual for a person in their mid 70’s. At his lowest he dropped to 95 lbs and today he weighs around 115.

If you have elderly parents, do not under any circumstances let them be given the shingles Vax. You have no idea the Pandora’s box of health issues it opens up.

We’ve been at this 3 weeks, but the moaning and hand wringing would have you believe we’ve been at this for 5 or 6 years like the never ending Ukraine saga we happily piss away money and treasure too or the 20 year quagmire Bush left us in.
It’s an all VOLUNTEER army! They literally walked into a recruitment office at some point and time and ASKED to join the armed forces of the United States. Getting shipped overseas and into hostile environments is what they signed up for. Please spare me this self righteous indignation of a President sending anyone’s sons and daughters anywhere. Barron fricking Trump and the hundreds of children of congressmen and senators have the same choice as anyone else as to whether they want to join the military or not.
Are we talking a Trump Hotel in the heart of Tehran kind of big fricking deal here?

Here’s what I don’t understand about that city. They display a *Vladimir Lenin statue from the former Soviet Union and yet their society is far inferior. Even Soviet commies would never permit rampant trash , homelessness and drug use in their streets.

You’re missing one key factor. Soviet commies could line the trash up against a wall with zero repercussions. The commies in Seattle don’t have that power….. yet

If you get his sentiment, then it looks like he achieved exactly what he set out to do?

His sentiment is about marines capturing an island, but he chose one of the bloodiest battles of the pacific to make his point. I’d rather not have another Iwo Jima moment with thousands of American soldiers dead or wounded
I get his sentiment, but good lord! Does he not realize how bloody and vicious that battle was?

AI is insanely helpful, BUT you always have to challenge the information it gives you. You have to ask it directly what is your source for the information. If it can’t provide a direct source it will generally let you know it’s a summation vs fact.
Imagine you’re hunkered down in Iran somewhere ready to fight and die for cause, bombs are raining down night and day… and you hear Trump’s comments essentially calling you as relevant as dog shite on his shoe.. His comments aren’t meant for us. He’s calling their team trash. He’s dunking from the free throw and dragging his nuts all over their faces for maximum psychological effect.
quote:

We won. We won. In the first hour it was over."

As much as you want to believe it, he’s not talking to us. He’s talking shite directly to the regime because he knows his comments are going to be picked up and broadcast all over the globe.
