Just get her an e bike and upgrade the battery pack and controller. Probably ride any rode but the interstate and she doesn’t need to be commuting around on the interstate anyway

Oh yeah. Same happened with my son although it was closer to $700.

And then two weeks later he rolled his mom’s brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee and insurance company had to stroke a $52k check. And we had just switched to them a month before. lol

USAA auto
the worst for teen drivers. I had them for decades but just switched to State Farm due to my kids getting on plan.

USAA hasn't been competitive in LA in the last 20 years for car insurance. When we added our son our insurance doubled. You may want to try Progressive. It won't be cheap but it maybe cheaper.

When the girl told me the price I asked for a supervisor because going from around $320 a month to around $1300 a month just adding my son and another truck seemed wrong. The supervisor said off the record that USAA doesn’t really wanna insure young drivers so they price them out.

Yes, USAA is notorious for wanting policies with as little risk as possible, which is why 30 years ago Enlisted were not eligible to become USAA members. The conservative stance is pretty ironic because the company stated by insuring those that other carriers wouldn't cover.

Former military, it's not cheap.

She doesn’t have a vehicle yet. I simply added her as a driver to our 2 cars. $600/mo. Ridiculous.

I’ve since gotten quotes from Progressive and State Farm. Both are substantially less than USAA, with SF being about $50/mo less than Progressive. I’m going to check Geico as well.

Anyone that supports all the new tech in cars today can't complain about their insurance prices being high.

People who don't support these newer cars, are getting fricked.

I did this also and it came back to bite me in the arse. My son got into an accident and totaled the truck. The insurance company refused to pay for the totaled truck since he was considered an undisclosed driver(defined below). Thankfully, only the collision portion was only denied and the other parties damaged property was paid for. Check your policies for this exclusion

E. “Undisclosed driver” or “undisclosed operator”
means a:
1. Family member;
2. Person who resides in your household; or
3. A person who uses or has used a covered
auto at least once a week or at least seven (7)
times during the six (6) months immediately
preceding an accident or loss;
who is of legal driving age but who is not listed as a
rated driver on the Declarations Page at the time
of loss.
An undisclosed driver also includes any person
shown on the Declarations Page as a listed driver
or non-driver. A listed driver is a person who
resides in your household who is between the
ages of 15 and 17 and who does not have a
driver’s license or permit
Applying the facts of loss to the policy language, there is no collision coverage for

Yes, read your policy. Household is covered on the policy.

On an auto insurance policy, a "household" refers to all individuals who physically reside at your permanent address and are related to you by blood, marriage, or adoption.

This is until they get in an accident which then they will be named on the policy and you will likely pay $600 additional per month

That's exactly what she told me, as long as they weren't driving a car to school on a daily basis, I wouldn't need to add her. If she would have got into an accident I would have had to add her at that point.

Just a word of advice we did the same thing under the advice of our agent for about 6 months then were notified by our by her that State Farm was starting to deny claims for drivers in situations like this. Apparently they are cracking down on this tactic.

Exactly what we were told. They said add any licensed driver in the household or coverage can be denied

Irresponsible comment. Every company and every state has different rules/guidelines. You should always always ask your company about undisclosed drivers... AND get it in writing. I have seen at least one comment regarding a company being ok with not adding a youthful driver and that comment is most likely wrong (depending on the state they reside). If you have it in writing then you can file and e&o claim against the rep if the company tries to deny the claim...

Shop it- when I got a quote to add my new driver to USAA, our premium was going to double for just the driver. No car. We switched to Progressive for a year, then their rates went up 30% at renewal, so we switched to Geico. 3 cars, 3 drivers and our policy will renew next month for just less than $1500 for 6 months.

USAA can’t/won’t compete in LA anymore. We still have Life and Homeowners with them

Until he gets in an accident. When your insurance won’t cover your loss it won’t be fine.

My state farm agent told me the same thing. We only had two cars, I was primary on one, wife the other, said I didn't have to add her.

Hope that agent has solid E&O insurance when your claim is validly denied.

WTF!

I would just Uber everywhere at that point.
Between car costs, gas, maintenance and insurance you would be pushing $2k/mth.

Sounds safe for 16 year old. Walk around B.R. or spend all of your time with your boyfriend with raging hormones. Parent of the year level advice.
