Who's going to tell him that it's time to just shave it?

No. You don't give up assests for a minimum contract player that won't improve your team. We don't even have a contractes player where that makes sense to do so.

If we could have gotten a better option for the minimum beside Cody Zeller IT WOULD HAVE AlREADY HAPPENED.

No one else wants to come here or will take the min.

And Zeller is not getting “double” the vet min. He got paid the vet min.

Any vet looking at the Pels sees JV and Larry and assumes they’d be 3rd string at best on a team that didn’t make the playoffs last year. Not exactly a great resume when pitching potential FAs.

The center they missed out on without breaking the bank would be Jock Landale.

It’s good vet depth. I get it.

Apparently only the 1st yr at 8 mil is guaranteed and the last 3 years are fluff, but it still would’ve been challenging to match 1 yr 8 mil.

Why dip into the tax for that guy?

You either do a real upgrade or you fill out the bottom end.

It’s a stupid signing. The only reason it irritates me is b/c of the financial ramifications of it. I could give two shits about the 13th roster spot. I think it’s stupid to spend it on a shitty vet, but whatever, it makes no difference to our success this year regardless if it’s Zeller or Koloko or anyone else we would find.

Cash considerations or a future 2nd isn’t “assets”

Y’all act like I’m wanting to trade a 1st for a backup backup

Like someone said New Orleans is not a free agent destination. Some players will take less to play elsewhere. Griff is doing what he can.

2nds seem to have risen significantly in value with the new CBA. The Pels only have 2 available 2nds to trade because they blew most of them dumping Graham.

We are also literally over the tax line and still a roster spot short. He cant just throw 10 million around right now.

Stupid to do this before you go trade to dump salary. Now teams know you are desperate to lose salary

Landale averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds and cost 8 million next year.

Zeller averaged 6.5 points and 4.3 rebounds and cost 3 million.

I don’t get the hate, this is an upgrade to our big rotation on a one year deal that only costs a little over $3M.

Does it solve the rim protection problem? No, but it does help a piece of it. Billie and Jaxson were defensive liabilities and cost us a little over $9M last year. This is an upgrade to that side of the ball for $6M less than we were paying

I think that’s debatable. But I get as fans trying to find a positive spin

The last two seasons, Zeller has been a poor player. But he was actually good in Charlotte when he played for Borrego. So, which Zeller are we getting? Has the quality of his play declined the last two seasons, or was he simply used poorly? And can Borrego help put him in positions to be a positive player for us?

I'm not sure if Zeller is an upgrade from Billy or not. What I do know is that Billy wasn't someone who we ever wanted to get meaningful minutes, and Zeller is someone who has the potential to be in the regular rotation for us.

He was actually pretty decent for Miami too. I mean you really can’t throw a guy against a 2x finals MVP in after barely playing 2 years and getting picked up in February. I know he’s kind of goofy looking. But he’s actually more serviceable than Hayes and Willy.

However you are right that he was great in Charlotte. He just couldn’t stay healthy.
