Erin Summers and Wesley Johnson fired, per Shamit
Posted by GOP_Tiger on 4/17/26 at 7:32 pm
From Shamit's Substack, he says that this is on the business side and outside of the purview of Joe Dumars, so not his call.
Personally, I'm glad. Wesley Johnson was terrible. Erin might have done better with a better partner than him, and I didn't think that she was quite as bad, but she still needed to go. I think that part of her was trying to be Jen Hale, and she simply isn't Jen Hale.

Hungarian election winner Magyar opposes fast-track EU membership for Ukraine
Almost no EU nations support a fast-track Ukrainian membership (maybe a couple of the Baltics). Basically everyone wants Ukraine to go through the regular process. Magyar is simply putting Hungary in line with most of the EU.
The required anti-corruption systems and judicial reforms are obviously important for Ukraine, given the past history of political corruption there. That would put full EU integration on a timeline of 2032 or so, assuming there are no major problems. The war could obviously delay the timeline.

Interestingly, the "ceasefire" allows a lot of US rearming and resupply at just the right time after so much expenditure of arms. Nice break for maintenance too.
It also provides the Gulf states the opportunity to work with their new Ukrainian allies to upgrade their defenses against Iranian drones.
The Gulf states absolutely want us to finish the job, but they need better protection, and this gives them some time.
Meanwhile, Israel can focus for a while on destroying Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Worldwide, this gives global oil supply systems time to stabilize.
Is Iran using this time as well? For sure. They're digging out missile launchers, repairing munitions factories, getting resupply from China and Russia, etc. But, overall, I think that the good guys get more benefit from break in the action.

Fears is also about to finish this season with 82 games played, which is obviously an incredible thing for a Pelicans first-round draft pick.

So one more day before we start blasting away again. Did anyone really think there would be a deal made?
I don't know about the outcome of the talks. My initial reaction was that the ceasefire was bad, but that first instinct ended up being wrong.
The ceasefire ended up being a good idea, as we have been able to open the Strait while the talks have been happening. Iran didn't dare sabotage the talks by firing on our ships, and they won't fire on merchant ships and oil tankers during the talks, either. All of Iran's talk about charging tolls to pass through? They suddenly look silly.
Tomorrow, a lot of ships are going to pass through the Strait. That's a good thing.

It seems to me that with the Prince and all the people against the regime, the US could find someone to load up the Iranians with weapons. If the CIA can't do that, especially with "92%" of the population behind them, I don't know what they are worth. If it were the other way around, russia and china would have the opposition carrying two AK47s each.
The problem is that the only real way we have to do anything like that at scale (since we no longer have a base in Afghanistan) is through the Iraqi Kurds. And we've simply let the Kurds down too many times now. In his first term, Trump didn't stop Turkey when Erdogan invaded the Kurdish part of Syria. Trump pointedly sat on his hands when the Iraqi Kurds made a bid for independence in 2017, letting the Iraqi federal government crush the idea and retake Kirkuk from the Kurds in the process.
Another problem is that most of the border that Iran has with the Iraqi KRG (Kurdish Regional Government) is the part of Iraqi Kurdistan controlled by the Talabani clan and the PUK, which has long been friendly with Iran. The KRG government is controlled by the Barzani family and the KDP, who would likely be more receptive to the idea, but they don't control the Iranian border.
Finally, there's the problem of how this would be perceived in Iran. Most Iranians want to keep their country in one piece and are highly skeptical of Kurdish separatism.
It's just not easy. Sure, the CIA could obviously land military equipment in the middle of nowhere in Iran for rebel groups to pick up, but there really aren't any rebel groups yet. There are lots of people who would like to be part of such a group, but they don't have any weapons or organization and would get wiped out.
It's kind of a catch 22.

Yeah, they're betting on TACO. I think that's a very bad bet.
Not the first time I have been wrong.
Seeing the Gulf nations sign defense agreements with Zelensky reminds me that the Saudis bought air defense systems from Russia in 2023, when they also invited a Kalibr-armed frigate to dock at Jeddah. The Saudis even joined BRICS, lol.
How the tide turns.
How the tide turns.

Not sure how many militia came in over the last few weeks but hopefully we are taking them out just as much as we took out the Guard and Basij.
Ultimately their coming in proves the regime can only hold on by force at this point.
Every dead hard liner is one less to cause the world problems in the future.
Yeah, this war is abou more than Iran: it's about fixing almost all of the problems in the Middle East. It's about getting rid of Hezbollah in Lebanon, the PMF and Kaitab Hezbollah in Iraq, the Houthis in Yemen, and (of course) Hamas.
When the Iranian theocracy is removed, most of the other problems in the region disappear.

According to the same diplomat, the prevailing assessment within the ayatollah regime is that it can sustain a prolonged conflict and inflict even heavier damage on Israel, the United States, and regional countries.
Yeah, they're betting on TACO. I think that's a very bad bet.
So, we're going to have to truly crush the regime. Because this war absolutely, positively cannot end with Iran still in control of its uranium, nor can it end with the regime controlling the Strait and charging tolls to pass.
Get ready for gas prices to go higher, because we're going to have to take the regime's money away from them.

He stabbed me in the back with this Iran war bullshite and you’re going to find out in November there are a lot who feel the way I do. And the November after that. And the November after that.
No. No, we aren't. You and Tucker and your little band of anti-American frauds are going to find out that Americans overwhelmingly want America to lead the free world.
Trump may still cost the GOP the election this fall with his stupid tariffs that have hurt the economy, but you and the rest who want Bidenesque weakness from America are on the losing team in the long term.

After observing that poster for period of several years, I also think it was clear what he meant. Just not what you said. He meant that the US "blew" $300M in the sense that word is always used when people talk about blowing money. Frivolously or wastefully or unnecessarily spent, which is incorrect for multiple reasons.
I'm so sorry that you were born retarded.
My next post, which I had already made before you expressed your confusion, stated "Worth every penny."

LOL. "Extravagant" doesn't necessarily mean "wasteful."
Good grief, this is ridiculous.

Then you should say what you mean,
I did say what I meant. From Merriam-Webster,
Blow
quote:
to expend (something, such as money) extravagantly
That doesn't necessarily mean what you suggested as follows:
quote:
The connotation of "blowing money" is to spend it carelessly or wastefully. That's not what happened.
Glad I could help instruct you in the English language.

Definitely not what I meant. My other messages make that clear.

"The mountain top area on the left is where the WSO was hiding (he ejected 5ish miles northwest of there). The right area is the makeshift landing strip where they landed 2 C-130s and had 4 MH-6 Little Birds.
"One Little Bird flew to that mountain top area and rescued the WSO and brought him back to the landing strip. And of course the two C-130s' nose gears got stuck in the dirt. So after a few hours they had to bring in three AFSOC Dash-8s to fly out the rescued WSO and the 100 or so personnel involved in the op."
"The op basically cost $300 million because they had to abandon the two AFSOC C-130s and the four MH-6 Little Birds. Then the U.S. Air Force had to use multiple bombs to blow up all the aircraft they abandoned at that airstrip. And the Iranians shot down 2 MQ-9s Reaper drones.
"Luckily the U.S. suffered no casualties and we had to use multiple bombs and missiles to blow up IRGC vehicles that tried to drive up the mountain and also those that tried to drive to the airstrip."
Worth every penny.

aren’t you the one constantly crying about Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine?
No. My problem with Russia is about them routinely striking apartment buildings and hospitals, not bridges and power plants.
