it appears that Russia is losing the sea of Azov
Eight tankers, a dry-cargo ship, and a ferry used to supply Crimea. That's an incredible set of targets.
The greatest debate about the conflict right now is whether Ukraine's long-range or medium-range strike campaigns are doing greater damage. The long-range strikes have had success inflicting fuel shortages across Russia, but this is a huge score for the medium-strike campaign—much of Crimea is often without power now, and Russian logistics are transitioning from "challenging" to "nightmare."

By today, the Omsk refinery had remained one of only two refineries in the top 10 that had never been hit by Ukrainian drones.
Awesome strike. Seriously, look at Omsk on a map.
Ukraine also hit two other refineries last night:
- Yaroslavl again (hit on June 28)
- Pervy Zavod refinery in the Kaluga region

I have no idea. I don’t know the future but I do put some effort into to trying to understand the present.
Not really. You present Rybar maps as gospel truth.
There once was a time when Rybar tried to be independent and honest, but then the Kremlin threatened warbloggers if they strayed too much from the official propaganda, and Rybar began mostly just copying what the official proclamations were.
You're invested in a fantasy, not seeking truth.
As Rubio just recently pointed out, there was no agreement in Anchorage. There was only a discussion.
Any "Mexican" restaurant has to make a lot of money off drinks—much more than a standard restaurant. Their success in getting people to come and drink will determine whether or not they succeed.
Guanaja is awesome. He's going to love it.

Tucker says that Putin is doing a great job, because he's really good at politics.

Are we trying to make the postseason and do something? Or is this year a rebuilding year?
If we're rebuilding, then make Missi our starting center and bet on developing him in a quality piece for the long term.
If we're really trying to win next season, then Missi hasn't yet shown himself to be a starting center on a team trying to make the playoffs.

Well, in all honesty, the fuel crisis might collapse the Russian economy fast enough that mobilization won't be a major factor.

You do realize that if Russia announces a general mobilization, the Russian economy is well and truly fricked.

Hmm ... Ukraine used a mystery weapon last night.

The Hit-Refinery-of-the-Day:
Ukraine reportedly hit the AVT-6 processing unit. This facility previously processed 11% of Russia's gasoline. It was previously hit in May and then again on June 25th. Those previous strikes had already taken parts of the refinery offline. I suspect that today's strike will take the whole facility offline for major repairs.
My suspicion is that part of the greater effectiveness of Ukraine's recent refinery strikes is that they are systematically taking out components that cannot easily be replaced and repaired, either because those components use Western parts that are not easily obtained, or because of intelligence about shortages. Part of this is likely due to greater accuracy from Ukrainian long-range drones.
As I'm sure CitizenK and others here can testify, refineries generally have lots of redundancies. For example, a system inside the refinery that needs one motor is designed with two motors so that one can be taken offline and repaired if necessary, while the other runs and no production is lost. In this scenario, if Ukraine destroys one motor, then, in the short term, no real loss of production occurs. When Ukraine then hits the other motor, though, production stops. Production also stops if the motor simply breaks on its own. Russia is likely facing a cascade of failures as the difficulty of importing instruments and equipment increases pressure on remaining refineries to do everything possible to deliver gasoline.
And as Ukraine repeatedly takes refineries offline, the targeting list gets easier and easier to construct.
Advise and Consent just might be the best political thriller of all time.
The movie is very good, but it's still not in the same league as the book. If you want to understand how the US Senate truly used to operate, this is it for sure.

By itself, the Gripen doesn't add any major capabilities besides what Ukraine already has, but it can carry British -made Meteor missiles.
EDIT: This is in addition to the 16 Gripens that Sweden is donating to Ukraine, starting early next year.

Saab has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for 16 Gripen E fighter aircraft for Ukraine. The Swedish defence company said the order value corresponds to approximately SEK 24.6 billion

The order will be booked in the third quarter of 2026. Saab’s deliveries to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration are scheduled to take place in 2029 and 2030.
The contract covers the 16 Gripen E fighter aircraft and also includes spare parts. It further includes associated items and equipment linked to the aircraft package.

Pretty much the same food everywhere we went. It was all good, hot and fresh but the same dishes.
Do y'all understand why this is? It's because of what tourists expect. There wasn't even a single restaurant in Venice serving pizza until a century ago. But today, almost every Venetian restaurant serves pizza, because it's the "Italian food" that tourists expect.
On my trip this past month, I even saw a number of restaurants serving pasta with Alfredo sauce. Y'all, Alfredo sauce was invented in one restaurant in Rome in 1950 and was completely unknown in Italy until the sauce became so popular in America that all the American tourists began asking for it in restaurants in Italy, and then these restaurants learned how to cook it. Very few ordinary Italians know what it is, but it's getting common in touristy restaurants.
You can still get plenty of unique dishes in different parts of Italy, but you have to be aware that touristy restaurants are going to offer the dishes that tourists expect.
