Because there is absolutely no need to showcase any of that shite in a children's movie.

Sounds dangerous. If your kids see fire and water getting along, they'll probably want to transition or, at least, quit church.

Setting aside the issue of gas, lesbian, etc Americans are somewhat consistent about this sensibility.

As a culture we seem to worry much less about kids seeing violence than sex. A second of Janet Jackson's titty at the Super Bowl sent our culture into a panic.

When that was a halftime show for a sport where players can have gruesome or even life ending injuries on live television

This has to be a troll maybe if this was Blueboy or Kaiju but nah it has to be one

Even the leftist media reviewers think this movie sucks. You're knighting for windmills. Your fair maidens are all trannies.

It's a crap movie from a crap company. I would want at least one of those to be changed for the better before I gave them my money.

It's an interracial dating allegory. It was obvious from the teaser.

I will show war movies to my kids when it’s time so that they don’t want to go to war unnecessarily and don’t support needless wars.

I won’t intentionally show them the output of the warped minds who produce most of what comes out of Hollywood these days.

Sort of my point.

the story follows fire element Ember Lumen (Lewis) and water element Wade Ripple (Athie), who meet and fall in love after Wade is summoned by a plumbing accident at a convenience store owned by Ember's father Bernie

Sure, it all starts with Fire and Water starting to get along.

Then a “plumbing accident”? C’mon, there are no accidents in plumbing.

The accident happens at a convenience store? What are they trying to do normalize bad things that happen at convenience stores now?

Then the store owned by daddy? Seriously? We need daddy issues to be part of this filth?

We went to see it yesterday at a budget theater where all seats are $2. Predictable plot, nothing terrible or amazing in regards to the animation, the lesbian relationship is briefly mentioned but is hardly noticed unless you are looking for it.

Spent around 15 bucks on tickets and snacks for three of us to go. That seemed about right for the quality of the flick. I’d have huge buyer’s remorse if we went to a non-budget place.

One great thing about it is that it didn’t have any mind numbing songs that my 7 year old will want to hear nonstop for the next four weeks. So that’s a plus.

You can see the old Disney in trying to make a feel good story with a happy ending but they’re currently too woke to get their message across to normal families which make up the overwhelming majority of our country.

i feel like Inside Out was the last movie where i didn't feel like they were trying to make me feel something i may not have felt.

i went and looked and Good Dinosaur, Incredibles 2, Toy Story 4, Luca, Turning Red, Lightyear Onward, Soul and Coco came out since then.

I was wrong. Coco, Soul, and Onward are the only ones i've liked since Inside Out. That's how sad the state of Pixar and Disney are that they have made about 2 or 3 movies i liked and I can't remember them.

I actually didn’t realize that the flash lead was who he is. Shame on me for not looking more into.

Just watched it with my 4yr old. I thought it was a decent movie and he was amazed with all the cool animation stuff like the glass blowing and the water people popping in and out of places, not sure he really understood or cared much about the story.

quote:

The whole premise is the fire people are like black people and the plot is centered around a mix-raced couple, fire and water.

I mean they made it pretty clear the fire people were immigrants who formed their own little fire town in the big city and even spoke a different language. They are pretty obviously more like Asian immigrants than black people, so I don’t know what you are talking about.

Also the fire people were just as much if not more discriminatory towards the water people than everyone was to them. I bet it was a pretty accurate representation of what an immigrant/child of an immigrant goes through in America

ETA: based on this thread there was a scene where’s female introduced the main character to her girlfriend. Honestly I guess I missed that part, wasn’t a big story for sure must’ve been just in passing or something

Nah man, you're being a responsible adults. Look at all the unware parents that didn't know they put pornographic gay/trans books in your elementary school library. I would screen all the content your kids would watch. That's call being responsible not soy.

Soy is letting your kids watch whatever and ask why they are showing that.

Friend,

Elemental is a good, not great, movie. At its heart it is a story about an immigrant family living in a large city. If you love living in or visiting New York, you will likely like the movie. The pressures that the first generation children feel are highlighted: marry your own kind; get a job that pays well; obey the law; reject self-satisfying habits; accept duty and reject desire.

I was unsurprised to learn that the writer is a Korean American born to immigrant parents, raised within the Church, and an all around good guy. The movie is a beautiful thank you letter to his parents, who sacrificed so much so that he could live the American dream.

God is mentioned once. There are no curse words, but there is one instance of cursing innuendo. There is no premarital sex, but there is a climatic premarital kiss. There is a professional sporting event scene. There is also some hint of superstition with the smoke reading.

It is rated PG, but could easily have gotten a G rating. I do not believe I saw a single G rated movie in theaters this summer. 7/10.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

It’s a fine little movie. Not earth shattering, but didn’t deserve nearly the hate it got here.
