it’s definitely a low stakes plot, but it’s overall a cute movie a literal fish out of water story about kids trying to find their place in the world.

there are genuinely funny bits and some heart warming parts, like Alberto getting adopted by the dad.

Luca is better than that Raya movie and should have gotten a theatrical release instead of Raya.

Strongly disagree. Turning Red is trash.

It's quite telling that you left off the rest of my quote that completely demolishes your frame of thought. There is no such thing as the idea of "non-binary" without gender.

quote:

This question is as stupid as asking "cars being non-binary?" about the Cars movies or "emotions being non-binary?" about the Inside Out movie. Yes, in reality these things don't have genders. No, that isn't relevant to the movie.

i remember girls in the boy band craze. I think the story with the mom is repairable to anyone with an overbearing parent. it’s issue is maybe it’s audience is more preteens than young kids.
Being relatable for a small subset of the population doesn’t make it good. Quite the opposite. Look at inside out. A girl going through adolescence “should” only be relatable to that group, yet it hit home for everyone even me who doesn’t have a daughter. It was more about dealing with major changes yet kids could understand too with how the story was told by personifying our emotions. Turning Red was absolute shite compared to that.

again, you’re getting upset that a fictional movie universe has non-binary water people and think a different fictional world full of car people is a counter argument.

Interesting projection. You seem to be the only one upset here. To the point of insulting the entire board. This is clearly very personal to you.

ETA: Why does it bother you that people don't want their kids indoctrinated into the idea that sex/gender is a choice?

oh because this movie doesn’t actually talk about it. I think society as a whole is worse off when people think the existence of different people is “indoctrination”

Just curious. Were you cool with Gonzo wearing a dress and tiara and becoming non-binary in the muppet babies? Because while I understand that the Elemental scene could be easily missed, there can’t be much doubt that there have been plenty of attempts of inserting gender identity into entertainment meant for children.

Luca’s issue is with story. There’s no development with any character and none of them are really likeable. The friend is obnoxious. Luca is another Milo. Scared of adventure yet forced into it. The plot has very little weight. Winning a race? Who’s the antagonist? Some random creepy guy who seems too old for the part? Most of the movie is forgettable.

Oh I meant what was wrong with it to deserve being turned off in offense.

I agree it’s not a great movie, it has funny little parts and sends an overall wholesome message though, I’ve seen worse children’s movies.

Really when you think about it, if Pixar is pushing any kind of agenda, it’s a pro-immigrant agenda.

Luca, Turning Red, A Bugs Life, Elemental, Inside Out, Raya, Finding Nemo. All of those movies have a central story of not prejudging others based on where they are from and/or have a major storyline about a character trying to adapt to living in a new place.

I wouldn’t call that an immigrant agenda. It’s more about accepting differences in general. That’s not an new concept.

Also, I know it’s been tough for people to tell the difference these days, but Raya isn’t Pixar.

No I don't. You, on the other hand, can't even post a comment about this without typing so furiously that you misspell simple words.

Non-binary people do not exist. Everyone is the sex/gender they were born as. It is an attempt to indoctrinate children anytime anyone pretends otherwise in anything meant for children.

He is intentionally ignoring the fact that this is a pattern of behavior with Disney, and not just a one-off scenario.

Yea I agree, I do feel like anytime we have a children’s movie with this message now, some people get upset about indoctrination. Really it’s just the universal message every kindergartner is taught about accepting others and not fearing things because they are different.

It's amazing when people say things that are so clearly false. Just scrolling page 5 will tell you this is a lie. This comment from him should discount everything he says about anything. He will clearly lie to you even about things you can easily verify for yourself.
