I
quote:

I like The Good Dinosaur because my kids like it, it's age-appropriate and wholesome for little kids.

so is Coco
so is Finding Dory
So is Luca

also none of those movies have a 10 minute scene where the main character eats fermented berries and trips balls

they also tell entertaining stories that aren’t weird dinosaur westerns where almost nothing happens.

things can be wholesome and entertaining. The Good Dinosaur is just weird.

I’m certainly not here to criticize the film choices of a 4 year old

However, Coco is one of the most wholesome movies that Pixar has ever made.

most pixar movies are extremely wholesome.

i’ll say that recently some of them have been targeted toward older audiences (Turning Red and Onward are more coming of age stories) but very few aren’t wholesome.

I alsonhave a toddler and i’ve been forced to watch the Good Dinosaur recently and it’s just terrible. bottom 2 pixar movie with A Bug’s Life.

Inside Out is good for this reason. Ratatouille, Up, Finding Nemo, the Toy Stories… they were just great for the whole family and enjoyed by anyone. No one was looking at agenda.

I’m sad that the Pixar train has come to a halt. They were so good for so long. My 9 year old won’t get to enjoy seeing new, good animated films in theaters it seems.

I saw it. It's about interracial relationships.

Not just agenda in the story telling but in the halls of Pixar itself. Directors, writers and producers were chosen and/or pushed out because of quotas. The material and stories suffered. Turning Red and Luca are prime examples of that.

they’re both better movies than the Good Dinosaur.

and the Turning Red director has directed Bao which is an adorable short for Pixar.

also, while we’re talking about people who didn’t deserve movie.

the guy who directed Elemental directed The Good Dinosaur.

This is the character. I watched the movie yesterday and legitimately don’t remember this character, I guess she was one of the water guys family members? Could t have had more than a few seconds of screen time, did she even have a line? Seems like virtue signaling by the actor to me.

Luca I agree. Turning Red, no.

The Good Dinosaur was an outlier plagued by changes in leadership, story, and rising production costs because of delays. It was never a coherent story with great characters. There were really good Pixar movies before and after it. Nothing has been great from Pixar since Coco.

What’s the issue with Luca?

He wasn’t the original director. They changed everything in the middle of production even the voice cast. It was that bad.

Luca’s issue is with story. There’s no development with any character and none of them are really likeable. The friend is obnoxious. Luca is another Milo. Scared of adventure yet forced into it. The plot has very little weight. Winning a race? Who’s the antagonist? Some random creepy guy who seems too old for the part? Most of the movie is forgettable.

it’s definitely a low stakes plot, but it’s overall a cute movie a literal fish out of water story about kids trying to find their place in the world.

there are genuinely funny bits and some heart warming parts, like Alberto getting adopted by the dad.

quote:

Turning Red, no.

Turning Res is better than the Good Dinosaur.

based on the timeline i’m 1 year younger than the main character, so i remember girls in the boy band craze. I think the story with the mom is repairable to anyone with an overbearing parent.

it’s issue is maybe it’s audience is more preteens than young kids.

Soul was good. Not great. What’s memorable from it? Every great Pixar movie has its moment. Something that resonates and everyone recognizes when mentioned. It could be a scene, a quote, or a whole sequence. It can even be an opening like Up and Wall-E. What does Soul or Luca or anything after Coco have?

water being non-binary?

Are you being intentionally stupid? The movie is about characters that are living elements and have genders.

This question is as stupid as asking "cars being non-binary?" about the Cars movies or "emotions being non-binary?" about the Inside Out movie. Yes, in reality these things don't have genders. No, that isn't relevant to the movie.

also, i hope it’s clear i’m talking down to you because I think you’re all small minded morons.
