No "ifs" about it. Anyone who looks at Anna Mineava's highlights against other professionals in Russia can see that she's special. Special to the point, in my opinion, of being an All-SEC type player, at least an All-Freshman team player, this year. She will give LSU some things they haven't had in the post. If she stays healthy she has "future first round draft pick" written all over her.
Kim and the staff knew full well there was always a chance that Kate might balk at the idea, but after watching Anna play they deemed it was worth the risk. I agree whole heartedly with them going for Anna. She's gonna be a superstar. I see all these posts saying, "she's just 17" when in reality with her pro experience and success she's actually more like 24 right now.
She's already seasoned and polished in many ways. It's amazing she's this good at age 17. Also plays a smart and mature game. When Caroline Bradley joins her, it will be scary for everyone else.
But they need to get another body in the post quickly to spell Anna because Morro seem to me is more of a 4. Don't want to have to move Z back to 4. They need her too much at the 3 now.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Koval ends up at Rutgers with Redus . She played high school ball not far from there.

No one in this thread is from Russia or Ukraine so you can’t say or assume how she’s supposed to feel about this

Is Kate a Ukrainian GI? Is the 17 year old girl some Russian military prodigy?
The answer is no to both, the Russian girl had no problem being teammates with a girl from Ukraine. If she did she wouldn’t have come.
The countries are at war, but it’s not like this 17 year old was killing Kate’s people. Even if her dad is in the military, there is no reason a daughter in this case should be punished for the parents work.

You should read about Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic and the Croatian/ Serbian/Yugoslavian conflict and how it ended lifelong friendships and a national team.

No one said the Russian deserves to be hated and certainly not for the rest of her life (as some have pointed out with the Berlin Airlift amongst other items).
However, from Kate's perspective. This invasion began when she was 16 and her father is actively involved in the defense of Ukraine to this day. Also with her being 20 now, she likely knows a lot of people she grew up with that are also a part of that defense now.
KM stated she spoke to Koval several times about it, so perhaps Koval thought she was good with it originally. That could have changed with bombings increasing on both sides recently and she is potentially feeling some pressure (direct or indirectly) from this.
Point being, bad situation that we have zero ability to actually perceive because we haven't had a sustained invasion (not counting one off attacks) occur on the US mainland since 1812 unless you want to count the Civil War.
Wishing Koval the best and look forward to watching Anna play here. Geaux Tigers
