You guys really dont have much idea of what's going on in Russia.
Certainly a Moscow girl who may end up a star for the Russian national team isn't the biggest news.
However, Putin has cut off almost all TV/ internet access to the outside world and the entire Russian media is concentrated on news stories that downplay the seriousness of the war in Ukraine.
Not to say it had anything to do with her decision to leave the team.
However a story like a young Moscow girl that may end up a star player for the Russian National team sought after to play in the USA is precisely the type feel-good normalizing story that fills current Russian programming.

Need I remind you that you implied the Russian has nothing to do with the war.
She very well might not have anything to do with it. Hell, she may even be silently against Putin. But that doesn’t change the Koval family’s concerns for the dad’s safety.
Simply pointing out that many a military efforts are carried out via innocuous parties to the cause.

From Kate's side she has most likely has felt firsthand the nature of war and colonization. I have seen mass graves being filled with Ukrainian civilians on X at the very beginning of the war. It's truly disgusting. I'm not saying it's fair to treat Anna unfairly because of where she was born, but it's not something that is easily just swept under the rug. Personally, I was hoping Kate would give her more of an opportunity, but maybe this isn't completely to do with the fact Anna is a Russian, and more to do with playing time. Kate could have seen her role at LSU growing smaller than maybe even last year where she averaged less than 18 minutes a game. Maybe she just wants an opportunity to sit out a year and try again on a team that doesn't have as much depth. At the end of the day, I just want a NC, and if Anna will help us get there better than Kate, I'm okay with her leaving.
