Thought he did a pretty good job with the DL this year. But what Robinson brings to the table is outstanding.
Perhaps they should do one on "runts" including the Trev Alberts spiel in the ESPN studio after LSU beat Ole Miss in 2003 when Eli tripped.
quote:

He would have come back to LSU over Bama if he could but unfortunately, Miles had just won a NC.

Actually, Miles won the national championship in 2007 during Saban's first year at Alabama. Saban was with the Dolphins during 2005 and 2006, and then he decided that he wanted to come back to college football.

The story goes that he contacted Skip to see if he could come back to LSU, but the job wasn't open, and Skip, who was still pissed off at Saban leaving Christmas of 2004, stayed loyal to Miles, who went on to win the natty that year, a year when they nipped Bama and Saban in Tuscaloosa. OT I believe.

Ironically, the story goes that right after that Bama's AD offered Saban the job on the sly (sure Sexton was in it), and when Saban said yes, the AD canned Shula so that Nick could become the Bama head coach. Don Shula always had hard feelings for Saban after that.

Saban always said that the biggest mistake of his career was leaving LSU for the Dolphins. But then he would've never realized he was cut out more for coaching in college unless he'd left and tried it. At his opening Bama press conference, Saban proudly stated that he'd signed star LSU players like Jamarcus, Bowe and Early who'd just destroyed Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, and Miss Terry spoke up and told him to say they hoped their LSU friends would still be their friends after taking the Bama job as they really loved their time in Baton Rouge.
If an assistant coach is caught negative recruiting against his current employer, isn't that considered "cause" for firing?

Can't wait to see the Kiffin vs. Dabo fireworks leading up to the game! In pregame buildup on social media, Lane will definitely remind Dabo that he's coming to the "Real" Death Valley!

I'm beyond thrilled that this new chapter with Kiffin will make LSU football fun again, something that was lost this year due to the putrid offense.

I don't think we'll ever have to complain about the offense under Kiffin. It will be fun and entertaining, and they will score in the red zone! Kiffin will also make it entertaining, just like he did with his first press conference.

My favorite comment from the presser was that Lane brings "a big personality to a state with big personalities."

Saban left for the NFL so there was no hurry to leave. His bowl game was one week after he announced he was leaving. There wasn’t the need to make a choice. There were reports of player-staff dissension the week prior to the bowl game, and after Saban tried to shame Ronnie Prude postgame in the dressing room, Prude stood up and shouted him down. “Shut up (or something stronger), you’re not our #### coach! To which Saban stormed out of the dressing room. The point is that it wasn’t good to hang around.

Saban left for LSU immediately

While the OM folks are bashing Kiffin at the thought of him leaving before the playoffs, if he does leave it’s really no different than a lot of coaches have done, like Saban bolting for LSU before Michigan State’s bowl game in a season he’d brought them unprecedented success. They’d beaten Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State in the same season for the first time ever. None of his assistants followed him to BR, and MSU wound up beating highly-ranked Florida in the bowl.

So it’s not that unusual for a coach to leave for a big job before the bowl games or playoff. So if Kiffin leaves, it’s probably because he thinks this Ole Miss team, although having a great season to this point, wouldn’t stand up through the whole playoff gauntlet because they’re not that great on defense or in the trenches. He probably believes they’ve been living on borrowed time and probably won’t win the natty.

He probably believes he has a better chance at sustained success at a school like LSU or Florida.

Believe only focus is Lampley, Vukosa and Jerzy

Thanks for the info.

Do we have a realistic shot at Vukosa with Koval already on the roster? It does seem like UCONN's front court depth chart is loaded more than LSU's for the coming years.

Also, would LSU be playing Lampley at the 4 position? It would seem that depth is needed there after Amiya Joiner graduates. What would be the holdup or chief competition with Jerzy?

I'm thinking that Fleary and Spaight looked at LSU's depth at PG (Fulwiley, Richard, Bourrage) for the next few years and backed off.

What's the latest on Jerzy Robinson, Trinity Jones, and Olivia Vukosa?

Other than returns I didn't notice him on the field. Did he get much action at WR or any targets? Normally they use him in the running game as well.

Also, why so few targets for Barion Brown? He would be a better option than Chris Hilton on the deep ball at this point.

Can't argue with the number of passes to Green and Parker, though. Glad they were featured.

Who does Joe Sloan sound like?

Have you ever heard him speak in an interview? I listened to him in a 30-minute preseason interview on YouTube. I swear I thought I was listening to Jimbo Fisher. If you were to close your eyes and weren't told who was speaking, you'd think it was Jimbo Fisher talking. Not from a football knowledge standpoint, but from a rapid-fire, speed-talking, hard-wired super car salesman standpoint. They sound the same.

re: 1973 LSU Football Season

I was there. McClendon had this thing where he always alternated tailbacks each series regardless of how well a particular back was running. Brad Davis was gouging Alabama in the first half. On his coach's show later Bear Bryant show on LSU-Bama '73, Bear Bryant repeatedly called Davis a "great back" and that he'd recruited him out of Hammond. "If I'd known how great he actually was, I would have recruited him harder."

Cholly Mac alternated Steve Rogers with Davis, and Rogers was good but not as good as Davis, but then with the game scoreless and the ball on LSU's own 20, McClendon puts in the green freshman, Terry Robiskie, who was highly touted but not ready for the big stage. On the first play Miley pitched out to Robiskie, who took his eye off the ball and fumbled, giving Bama the ball on the 15. Bama QB Rutledge took it in on the next play, and Bama had momentum for the rest of the game.

Actually, LSU drove up and down the field on Bama, running 77 plays to 53 for Bama, but Bama scored on two long passing plays while LSU got down to the Bama 15 twice, but Miley threw two bad interceptions. I think Robiskie lost another fumble in the game.

Davis's 48-yard TD run was spectacular, though, and Bryant raved about it.

Regarding Tulane Stadium, I believe the last game there was the 1974 Sugar Bowl national title game when Notre Dame beat Alabama. I was there for that also.

A former LSU player who was on the sideline for the Orange Bowl vs. Penn State told me that when Cholly Mac substituted a far inferior Billy Broussard for Miley at QB in the second half, Miley threw his helmet down on the sideline and said he'd never play for LSU again. True enough, he went pro baseball the next year.
I hope it's legitimate and accurate!

I know this- I followed Prime Field video breakdowns of the Serah Williams recruitment very closely. There were several videos with good breakdowns of the top contending schools, and at one point they had LSU leading.

But then OUT OF NOWHERE three days before Serah Williams announced- with nobody knowing what school she would choose and many thinking LSU- suddenly this video appeared How UCONN successfully recruited Williams, a 10-minute video at that, spelling out how UCONN's recruitment of Serah Williams WAS successful with all of the reasons UCONN pulled off the perfect strategy at the expense of LSU and others. It was all past tense as if it had already happened. Then three days AFTER the video posted she announced for UCONN.

So my conclusion from that was that she'd already informed UCONN of her commitment, and they leaked it to this video producer for a video as a tease. The video was too decisive and well-crafted, having taken a lot of time to produce and edit, for it to have been a shot in the dark.

Maybe that video was an outlier, and I could be wrong, but my opinion is that this video shows that Awa Fam is headed to LSU. I hope I'm right!

Whatever he's swinging seems recently to have developed a very large hole.
Tigerbait357, are they done with this coming year's roster, or are they trying to get another big from somewhere. If so, what's the likelihood? Thanks in advance.
Has anyone heard if they're pursuing another post player from anywhere?
Great last-second grab by Mulkey to round out the 2025 class and provide quality depth in the frontcourt, solidifying the frontcourt for the future so there won't always be a portal panic thing at the last moment like this year, assuming everyone stays. Three good young players in Knox, Koval, and Yarnevich. Along with Joyner, already able to matchup better physically down low with Texas, UCLA, Uconn, and South Carolina than last year, despite losing Morrow.

It still would be nice to have another quality post player to put us on equal footing this year with the other elite programs down low. Regarding the perimeter game, guards and wings, LSU is superior to anyone else this year, and that includes depth.

Any international targets that you might be aware of- like Awa Fam?
Hines, a combo guard, could pass up Richard at the point, but it's very nice to have two solid backups at point guard.

Koval and the coming frontcourt

Posted by goldenmoment on 5/11/25 at 1:23 pm
I believe Kate Koval will be better than a lot of people think. I just watched her highlight reel from this season, and while you don't see any of the bad stuff in these reels, I was impressed with how well she played against big-time competition like UConn, Texas, South Carolina, USC, Duke, and TCU. She was blocking shots, grabbing rebounds, and scoring inside against accomplished bigs like Oldacre of Texas, Sarah Strong of UConn, Iriafen of USC, etc. She looked very active and aggressive, fighting for position offensively and defensively. No fear. She looked like she enjoyed contact and loved to block shots. She also showed very good low post moves and a sweet mid-range shot. I wonder why she didn't get more minutes down the stretch for Notre Dame.

Judging from highlights, Amaya Joyner is a brawler who'll win plenty of physical matchups down low. She's strong and seems to love the contact and rebounding. It seems like she might be our version of Draymond Green down low. She can handle the ball well, and both she and Koval can run the floor well for their size.

Grace Knox, on the other hand, is on a whole different level both athletically and skill-wise. She's also very aggressive. I expect Knox to be in the starting lineup by the end of the season, if not earlier.

That gives LSU three aggressive frontcourt players already, definitely an upgrade from last season when they had only one, Morrow. I wouldn't call Smith, Wolfenbarger, Del Rosario, or Bartlett aggressive. None seemed like they really wanted to mix it up down low. Smith would do it because she had to- not because she wanted to. I saw Smith as more of a skill player down low- that was her game. Still she's a big loss because she's a good player who would give her best, especially against stronger and larger players. Due to injury, we never even saw her reach her top potential that she was flashing before she got hurt.

The downside is that with frontcourt players who like to mix it up and block shots like the three above, there's always a good possibility of foul trouble. This is huge when you consider that this coming year South Carolina, Texas, UConn, and UCLA will all have a ton of quality physical depth down low. I see Joyner as the most likely to get into foul trouble because she will now be facing better athletes in the SEC.

So LSU needs at least one more competitive post player, albeit for a few minutes per game, in order to "hold serve" when one of the above is in foul trouble so that LSU's unmatched perimeter game (best in the country starters and bench) can continue to assert itself. They need four post players to practice, anyway. A fifth would be good for injury purposes.

I realize that pretty much everyone already has this same opinion, but I was encouraged by watching the highlights of the transfers and newcomers.

Williams UCONN recruiting video

Posted by goldenmoment on 4/30/25 at 7:58 pm
This video https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/how-uconn-secured-the-future-of-their-program-with-serah-williams/vi-AA1DLeLb#detailsLINK was posted two days before the Serah Williams commitment announcement. Seems like somebody knew something at least a week ago. It would have taken a little time to produce this and gain approval before posting it. The usage of past tense, as if "she'd already committed," explains the strange silence around her visit, etc., polar opposite to her LSU visit.

Maybe her "agent" used LSU to up the bag since it seems she's always wanted to go to UCONN (attending their games, etc.) Even UCONN fans thought it strange and premature that this video was posted prior her "announcement" of the commitment, but possibly the commitment was already made. Note the very long time it took between LSU's visit and UCONN's, giving UCONN a lot of time to counter LSU's strategy, or get the extra money. I realize this is speculation, but you never know in the recruiting world.
