Danny Kanell Calls SEC Quarterback One Of College Football's Biggest Disappointments

CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell didn't hold back when discussing Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer ahead of Saturday's Red River Rivalry matchup against No. 1 Texas.

Kanell believes Mateer has been one of the biggest disappointments in college football this season, pointing to his costly turnovers and Oklahoma's 2-2 start.

"Mateer has probably been the biggest disappointment in college football based on the expectations coming in," Kanell said. "It's just been the back-breaking turnovers, which have absolutely crushed Oklahoma's hopes. They have a top-5 defense in the country and they're losing games."

Mateer has thrown for 883 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions this season, with costly mistakes contributing to Oklahoma's losses against Michigan and Georgia.

The Sooners will look to bounce back Saturday against top-ranked Texas in Dallas. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
