Has the phrase, "Getting hot at the right time", ever been more appropriate than now for OU?
It is unbelievable. What were they 11 in the SEC Standings and get knocked out of the SEC tourney.
They win 3 games in the World Series and are in the title game. I just thought for sure UGA would take a win yesterday and pull it out. But OU is hot at the right time.

I never thought they would make the super regional much less the CWS finals.
I just never thought of them like that.
Good on them. I’d rather they win it out of all the possible SEC teams that were there.

I agree with the OP. OU is a different team compared to wen we played them.

I picked NC at the start of cws, and sticking with them.

Posted this in the other CWS thread:

Oklahoma has had some elite freshman pitching step up, and these guys weren't some top recruits by any shape of the imagination

Cord Rager finished the regular season with an ERA close to 6 and an SEC ERA north of 7

He has given up 3 ER in 3 starts going 19 innings in the NCAAT. He was just outside the Top 400 on PG rankings

Nick Wesloski had a decent regular season as a reliever, made 2 starts in the NCAAT and given up 4 ER in 2 starts going 12.2 IP. He was barely inside the Top 1000 at perfect game. He was the #140 overall player in TEXAS by PG.

Doesnt hurt when you get performances like that out of freshmen

You forgot xander mercurius, who was basically a long reliever out of the pen, turned #2 starter over the last few weeks. 3 freshmen arms and average bats that turned into power bats for the last 3 weeks

And if they return and come back throwing like they have in the tourny + improving in the offseason, this will be a very good thing OU.

NOTHING suggested OU had any chance of getting out of the regional round. Let along making it to the CWS finals

They lost their last 4 SEC series
They only had 1 series win in SEC play over a team that made the NCAA Tournament (A&M..in the very first series of conf. play)
They were 9-16 vs. NCAA Tournament teams in the regular season
They were 3-7 in their last 10 games going into the NCAA Tournament
Of the 12 SEC teams to reach the tournament, OU was the second to worst (

Compare that to Ole Miss who was at least somewhat "hot" going into the 2022 tournament (even though they barely got in), going 7-2 in their last 3 SEC series

You also have to take into account that fact that UGA’s hitting went into an ice cold slump. Guys that had been taking all year were striking out and hitting pop ups. Yeah, the pitching was solid, but this UGA squad should have been lighting them up. But such is baseball.

And they did in an incredibly impressive fashion. They arguably got the hardest path to the NC by any team in their position.

The only team they have faced that wasn't a 1-seed/host was The Citadel, the 3-seed in their regional.

The Citadel (x2)
#2-seeded GT (x3)
#15-seeded Kansas (x2)
#7-seeded Bama
#3-seeded UGA (x2)

and now #5-seeded UNC at least twice.

Why not? NC has the pitching and can manufacture runs when needed. Been the most consistent team in post season. Go Heels

It is unbelievable.

Really is. And I confess, they've been fun to watch and seem easy to pull for.

As much as they were hammering UGA last night, I never saw them act a fool, unlike the UGA guy who stared down the pitcher after ball 4 like he did something. LOL

ETA: I've not seen the Heels play and have nothing against them. Don't have a dog in the hunt, but looking forward to the championship series.

I thought they were done when they were down 8-2 in their elimination game against Georgia Tech. Went on a 13-0 run to close out that game and won the next game via a walk off.
