Similar to Ole Miss a few years ago. It continues to reinforce my opinion that nearly all SEC teams have the talent to win it all and what separates them is the coaches who know how to make them peak at the right time. You have to be willing to suffer some losses early to let your high upside guys work through their struggles and develop

The level of baseball needed to be in / win championship has dipped pretty significantly in the last few years just like in football.

The talent is so much more spread out.

And they did in an incredibly impressive fashion. They arguably got the hardest path to the NC by any team in their position.

The only team they have faced that wasn't a 1-seed/host was The Citadel, the 3-seed in their regional.

Good point.

For reference, compare that to Ole Miss's unexpected 2022 run:

They had to beat #6 Miami in second game of the Miami regional...but only once because the 2 seed in the regional (Arizona) eliminated Miami in the next game. In the CWS Ole Miss beat #14 Auburn in game 1. But in game two they got to face unseeded Arkansas (and two more times after that) instead of #2 Stanford or even #14 Auburn again. Then, in the finals, they faced (ironically) unseeded Oklahoma.

It was a great run by Ole Miss, but the bracket did somewhat fall apart around them. OM only had to win 4 games vs. nationally seeded (1-16) teams during their run. If OU wins the NC they will have 9 wins over nationally seeded teams.

It would be, at least, the most unexpected run to a NC since Coastal Carolina in 2016. But even then, Coastal only had 5 wins vs. top 1-16 seeds to win the NC. More likely, it would be the most unexpected run since Fresno St. in 2008 given the path to the NC. It's not like OU has benefitted from the rest of the bracket falling apart around them. Thus far they have played (almost) only really good teams...and beat them all.

Has it?

In the last 5 years only 1 team who wasn't a top 8 national seed (Ole Miss in 2022) has won the NC. And to do so, the champion had to beat top 16 seed in the CWS finals

Loser of CWS finals since 2021

2021 - (4) Vanderbilt
2022 - (NR) Oklahoma
2023 - (2) Florida
2024 - (3) Texas A&M
2025 - (13) Coastal Carolina

OU hasn't gone through bums to get to this point.

They are a great team. Good for them. I also noticed they keep the on base swag dances and goofy dugout theatrics to a minimum.
