Why do people make exceptions for Islam and crew?
No one is. I was simply trying to imply the way he went about this bout shouldn't surprise anyone because its what those guys are known for. And whether we like or dislike that style of fighting is subjective because the rules today allow for it as long as their is meaningful action which apparently Herb Dean saw. I won't pretend to be more knowledgeable or have better judgement than him.
Trust me, I wanted Garry to use his height and reach advantage to beat the shyt out of Islam, but it didn't happen.
quote:
Your point about controlling and gassing is moot considering Islam ended up gassing himself trying to do that.
Correct. I already said Ian didn't seem gassed. In fact, Islam seemed so by the 3rd and 4th rounds. Sometimes plans don't work.
Its why I think had Ian came out stronger and less cautious in those rounds he may have won.
IMO rematch today, i think Ian wins.

I don't either. Its part of MMA. I thought it was a good fight.
However, it seems most people want to see a stand and bang fight. But it's like i said, that Khabib camp don't train that way, and their record as a camp speaks for itself.

Look at this s***, 22 significant strikes in 25 minutes. Less than a strike per minute.
Its part of what they train for. When you perform a take down and remain in control not only are you "controlling the fight", but you're preventing your opponent from striking thus scoring point, while hopefully gassing them. (which Ian didn't seem to gas). Ian only had 29 significant strikes as well.
Sure, most will agree its a snooze fest but this is what the Khabib camp is famous for. Take downs, smothering you, gassing you, controlling the fight with grappling, and hopefully submitting you. Islam is in this camp. Hell Khabib cornered him during this fight.
While it makes for a boring fight, its part of MMA so I won't knock it as I love the sport.
I do think rules should be changed for BMF bouts. Those should be stand and bang. Maybe allow take downs and if no submission within 1 minute or so the fighters are stood back up. Olivera V Max should not have went that way, it doesn't represent the history of the belt at all.

Rest easy coach. You'll never be forgotten, nor will your attributes that elevated LSU baseball, LSU athletics, and college baseball as a whole.
I will miss seeing him at games, hearing the commentators talk about him, or seeing him on TV at a game.

This is now pro ball. They are paid millions; they better have pressure to go out and make plays regardless of what number is on the jersey.

re: Portable AC Units
Posted by southern686 on 7/6/26 at 11:28 am to TU Rob
For a long term/permanent solution, central or mini split for upstairs would be ideal.
If your looking for temporarily relief, a portable or window unit in each room would work.
If you do go portable, get one that has two ducts that go thru the window. The single vented ones are very inefficient.
I have a portable I put in my living room every summer for a few weeks. I've never had to drain it. It evaporates the condensate and vents it outside.

Doesnt hurt when you get performances like that out of freshmen
And if they return and come back throwing like they have in the tourny + improving in the offseason, this will be a very good thing OU.

we hit a good number of flyballs to right that would have been home runs at Foley. That would have significantly changed the momentum of the game
Exactly.
When you swing for HRs in a park larger than you're use to and they don't make it out, you end up with fly outs. (Obviously)
Georgia isn't the first longball team in Omaha to get knocked off and certainly won't be the last.

Agreed. This past year's portal additions just didn't work out. Jay has acknowledged this in a post game interview (i forget which).
All other previous years we pulled some very good talent and said talent directly contributed to the 23 and 25 nattys.

I agree aside from from the Derrick Lewis V Hokit.
Just like his last bout, Derrick was completely unprepared and pretty much gassed halfway thru the first round. I know its the heavy weight division but still very underwhelming considering the stage.
All other bouts were a lot better than I expected. Especially the main.

Thanks for that explanation. It makes a lot more sense to me now.
Twoface is spot on but one thing to add, most of the time the "personal circumstance" that prevents a fighter (in this case the champ) from fighting is an injury. Either from previous fight, injured during training, recovering from injury/surgery...etc. Even still, I agree interim champ title fights in the UFC are a bit over used but I get it, UFC makes money on title fights even if its for an interim belt.
Either way, as a fan of the UFC, I don't know if they will ever top this event.

re: Do you follow football recruiting like you used to now that players get paid plus transfer
Posted by southern686 on 6/1/26 at 9:23 am to PSS101
No.
Its no longer recruiting. Its more of a bid war over kids who will sign with the highest bidder and aren't worried about jersey/brand. Then come next offseason, declare for the portal just to solicit more bids to see if they can't get more money.
When it comes to recruiting HS talent, I personally do not see the point in it at least for P4 schools. Surely they still will but it hasn't and will not be as prevalent as it use it. Why go recruit HS talent, spend the time and resources to develop them only to have them sit the bench, then they are liable to hit the portal the following year in search of more money. Better to just hit the portal and grab guys who already have playtime, experience, development, stats at the college level and let the HS talent go play at a FCS, G5, D2, etc. school and grab them after they develop.
Ever since NIL/Rev share, there needs to be regulation on transferring but I am unsure how you go about that. IE: transfer limits or sitting out a period of time if you transfer.

No, he's playing for the ncaa tournament. The only way to make it, is to win the Sec tournament pretty much.

Because the only way you make it to Omaha is winning the sec tournament. Winning this series does nothing. So throw meh pitchers. Will we go deep into the sec tournament? Highly doubtful. But cjj is playing the long game even still

It's a simple case of missing on a bunch of talent across the board, which is why I wish we had more information on who is scouting these players other than Jay. I'm sure he's not doing it on his own, but the number of missed evals that are currently on the roster is alarming.
Also have to realize, CJJ and LSU were in the regionals, super regionals, MCWS, and the championship all while the portal was open.
Surely this could have affected the recruiting.

You couldn’t possibly be more wrong. Rizy couldn’t put two in a row in the zone if the batter went back to the fricking dugout
Sheerin pounded the zone most of the inning, but he couldn’t just power it by two of their hitters. They fouled off until they got what they wanted and teed off on a couple of pitches.
Correct. Also Rizzy is very inconsistent. Sheerin's problem is he's too consistent and pounds the zone. His pitches while move, don't move much so hard to fool good batters. Keep in mind, he also pitches against the top of their lineup.
