My absolute biggest pet peeves are not re-racking weights and not wiping sweat off equipment.

The not reracking weights really gets me. There is even a huge fricking sign on the wall saying it. You cant miss it.

the sweat thing doesnt bother me so much because i wipe it off before and after i use anyway. But the other day i left some sweat on the bench and walked over to get a wipe and a guy started using it before i got back to it. i was like oh i was going to wipe it down. he said i dont care, its the gym everything has sweat on it. Haha

i try to wipe equipment off but in general, i dont particularly care if you do or dont. i will pre wipe if it looks bad anyway

cell phones got me today. i wanted to use the fly machine (only one in our gym) after my bench press. I started my bench press sets while one guy was using it. by the time i did my 5th set this guy had finished 2. spent entire time on his phone in-between. Wanted to slap him on the back of the head as ask him wtf.

Question, a pet peeve of mine is when someone tries to offer unwanted advice or explain things to other people. i dont ever do it even if i see bad or incorrect form. im not there to teach you. the only time i have ever said anything to someone is if i actually thought hey could hurt themselves, that's acceptable right?

It is. And if they act like an ahole then you just need to shrug it off because they are foing to hurt themselves sion enough.

I think it’s fine to help someone if their form is a train wreck. That’s just looking out for a fellow lifter. Nothing wrong with that.

People who lean against the dumbbell racks for rows are next level inconsiderate. I also love people who occupy a bench with cell phone and water bottle and do standing exercises next to it all day. ETA: Planet Fitness. Yeah yeah I accept that it’s my fault

A similar complaint is people who are using one station resting their stuff (e.g., water bottle, cell phone) on an adjacent station. Some personal trainers at my gym are particularly bad about this.

I had a guy doing Goblet Squats in front of a power rack the other day at like 6pm, the weight room was full as hell too.

I usually go over and ask them if they are all right. If they reply favorably I’ll give them some quick advice. Then I offer them steroids.

You do almost exclusively barbell work. You need a cage or half rack and just work out at home.

Douchebags who hike their shorts up to show off their quads, especially when they aren't big.

Guys who wear cut sleeve shirts when its cut all the way down the side except for like the bottom inch or so.

Guys who hold the muscle they are working when its a unilateral exercise, i.e. cable side bends and holding your oblique with your opposite hand like its helping them focus.

Typically these are all done by the same type of person at my gym. Young college age frat queers, typically lean with good definition weighing a bill fifty, who think, or at least give off the vibe that they think, that they are swole.

Get the frick out of my way so I can lift some fricking real weight you pussies.

Okay, that last line was a little much. Its just been bad since college has let out for the summer. But you know what I don't hate, 20 something year old chicks keeping it in summer shape. There has also been an abundance of those at my gym since college let out, too. I guess you gotta take the good with the bad.

1. Lack of gym etiquette- Just ask me if you need weights from my rack. Don't wait till I'm in mid-lift and walk up and just take them.

they aren't really yours, especially if the gym employees/customers have done a piss poor job of distributing the 45lbers around. If they aren't in use I don't think one needs to ask your permission to get any weights within your vicinity

That's why its called "etiquette". They don't HAVE to, but its respectful and polite to ask. And if the guy you ask says no, then hes the a-hole instead of you.

There was this semi-overweight guy on the preacher curl bench on Monday morning. He was directly behind me and my gf while we did incline flies, bench, and flat dumbbell bench. We did 9 sets total, each, and he was still on that bench doing preacher curls with the 30 lb dumbbell, using his other arm as a spotter, grunting like a wild hog. We walked away to the cable flies, did 6 sets of exercises there and back to the benches where the curl and straight bars were to finish up with some standing curls and reverse curls. Dude was still there preacher curling that 30. We did an hour and 10 min workout and that guy just stayed there curling and grunting the entire time. It was strange and a little embarrassing. Not so much a pet peeve as it was weird af.
