Younger folk think they will live forever. A waist above 40 is usually a marker for metabolic syndrome which is a forerunner to many diseases. We are a capitalistic society and big Food and big Pharma rule the day. It is the individuals responsiblity to take care of their own body because the powers that be don't give a shite about your health.

A few years ago, I neglected my body and got up to 220 lbs. I'm 6'2" and looked like a fat SOB. My face was chubby and my pants were tight. Started back up in the gym and sort of watched what I ate. Now back down to about 188 and feel so much better.

Unfortunately even if told by a doctor they will die if they don't change does not work. Lots of research and books written about this topic. The vast majority of people are finna eat, smoke, and drink whatever makes them feel good at the moment, no matter what.

This x 100. I'm a pretty big guy at 6'3" 262 lbs. I work out 3-4 days a week lifting and train BJJ another 2-3. My waist is right around 32" but according to BMI, i'm obese.
To fall in the "normal" range for BMI, i'd have to weigh 175 lbs. I would look like a cancer patient at 175.
This is an obvious troll but I want to make sure everyone in this thray understands BMI is an accurate measurement and predictor of risk factors for about 95% of the American population. Of course there are outliers. A 6'3", 262 lb who is in tremendous physical shape (working out seven days per week) with a 32" waist is an outlier. That's the size of most professional linebackers.

Health is the leading indicator for "Quality" of life. It is basically just realizing that you have a choice to directly effect the quality of your life for the better or worse. It is each individuals choice. We are powerful individuals. (Of course some are born with health obstacles but we still have a lot in our control).

It does not apply to body builders with tons of "heavy" muscle.

I'm no fatty, but the BMI chart is bullshite for measuring individuals. It's meant to measure populations.

You only get one body. Amazing that people willfully allow themselves to look like a slob. If your BMI is above 40, might not be a good idea to start your day with a 600 calorie large caramel frappucino from Starbucks and 2 sausage biscuits from McDonalds
Those folks might look at you drinking your green drink while wearing lululemon capris, and wonder why you'd choose to live your life that way, too?
What I find very interesting is how many really fat people I know that are alive, while the not-fat people keep dropping dead. Lost a 43 year old friend in January. Just dropped dead. Lost a 42 year old friend last year... just dropped dead, and he was very much into fitness.

Yeah, one of the rare few actual outliers that these threads usually attract. Carrying more body fat than ideal, but he admitted that himself. That's a big ole strong baw
Now, where's that guy who's dropping 17:59 5ks at 225

Insurance is nothing but a very unethical scam that is legal in this country and kept alive because of powerful overpaid lobbyists. It has nothing to do with fat people.
