re: Anyone else been disproportionately summoned to jury duty?
Posted by Jenious on 7/8/26 at 7:11 pm to StringedInstruments
I got a summons when I was stationed in Germany around 1999. My mom called and told them I was in the Army overseas. The clerk had the audacity to tell her I had no choice. My mom told her "good luck". Never heard back from that one.
The second was basically the same but the clerk told my mom that they would take me off the "list". I've never been contacted since.

That hasn't been true for a while. Only overseas or if your base is located 50 miles from the Mexico or Canada border.

Enough to pay my $9K/month mortgage
My ex wife was like this. I was blinded by her behind and oral skills to know better. She worked but was horrible with money. I made the mistake of telling her we had $5K in savings so instead of taking a small, reasonable vacation, she wanted to go all out and the package she chose ended up being just under what I had.

re: What happened at your work which caused multiple people to all quit at once?

My first job after college was a manager for medical billing. It was family owned, very casual and everyone got along well for the most part. The owner would give me his credit card and tell me to take out my team for lunch. They had guys that would grill for us once a month. If a patient couldn't pay a bill, screw it, write it off.
They got bought out after over 30 years in business. The VP was let go after a week. We had to bill and collect everything. It no longer became a fun place to work. Employees of 20+ years were quitting back to back. I was there for a year and a half and bounced.

I legit remember going to my grandmother's 50th birthday party. I was 10. She said she was half a century old and I thought she was old as dirt. The thing is, she looked old. I guess that's what having 10 kids and 30+ grandkids does to a woman.

Reminds me of something that happened during my Army days. Had two guys I worked with, one had a girlfriend and the other was single. The guy and his girlfriend had a threesome with a girl and then eventually she wanted one with a guy and he actually agreed. He picked the other guy we worked with.
Went over to his barracks after work, had a few beers and single guy starts kissing the girl. She's into it. Starts touching her chest, all good. Sticks his hand down her pants and she tells him to stop so he does. She runs out the room crying, calling the MPs saying she was raped.
The boyfriend was on the single guy's side and was clueless on why she even ran out the room .
Single guy got a BCD and confinement for a few months. She tried talking to me at a club afterwards. Nope, ain't happening

I haven't had a car note since 2010. Been paying cash for used vehicles ever since.
I don't have kids so I'm not sure what's right, but my mom used to bring us boys into the women's bathroom when we were younger. Should she have brought us into the men's?

That's not a bad salary for only working 9 months out of the year.
You know better. Teachers work 13 months out of the year. They have no summer break because they're too busy dealing with last year's parents, getting their classrooms ready, making copies and dealing with their own kids.
re: Fell into a rabbit hole regarding the Gifted and Talented programs in elementary school
Posted by Jenious on 6/11/26 at 4:24 pm to boxcarbarney
Had a friend that went left on Wednesdays to go to the Gifted program back in the 1980's(87-88 if I remember correctly). Smartest kid in school, not athletic AT ALL but could play the electric guitar like a madman. I would ask him about the program and he wouldn't really talk about it. He would just say "Oh, it's boring... you wouldn't be interested".
I worked with a guy(RIP) that was drafted into Vietnam. They would actually ask you if you wanted the Army or the Marines. The guy I worked with said Army and he said some of the guys would say "Oh, it doesn't matter" and they immediately put them into the Marines,

I've been using the same one for about seven years now. We have our own discord so we know what's in the loop. They also do random drawings, usually monthly for free extensions to your subscription and they've given away NVIDIA Shields as well. Rarely any buffering and it's usually because my router needs to be rebooted.
I pay $90/yr. I know people who pay $200+ per month for TV service. So, what I would pay in two years of service is less than people pay in one month.

I hooked up with a mom that her kids go there. That's all I got.

I have a guy that lives two streets over who does the majority of my mechanic work for cheap. Changed out a coil pack/spark plug in my F-150 for $40 when the shop charges $180.

They could be $100 per pack and people would still go into debt buying them while complaining about the price of gas.
re: How much do you actually work at your job?

There are some days after I hit my deadlines that I can goof off pretty much all day. But I probably only work 3-4 hours at any given day.
