I love that use the scale that says I’m obese while being 5’11 225lbs, 11% body fat, can run a 5:35mile, sub 18 5k and at currently at my peak. Get out here with quoting and using that trash arse propaganda tool, I’ll take my obese BMi of 22-32 with my speed and athleticism any day.

its weird how people openly display their insecurities

lets just pretend that you are a peak specimen like Aaron Donald

you would obviously be an outlier, so why should we re-write the entire scale based off of you?

its a metric designed for population scale

it makes no sense to me why someone that is a clear outlier would care

My point was that BMI doesn't tell the whole story and often times, raw numbers can't tell you if someone is obese or not.

Fried chicken almost everywhere it's sold is fried in unstable oils which inheritanly does make it unhealthy.

Just because it's unhealthy doesnt mean that it can't be consumed, in moderation, without disaterous health complications. But yes, it's unhealthy and so are donuts. BUT consuming them doesnt make the person doing so unhealthy.

Yes, excess and moderation always play a part but moderation is not the same as thinking something unhealthy all of a sudden isn't unhealthy just because it's consumed in moderation. it's still unhealthy, it just doesn't have the same impact as when consumed in excess.

OP seems like a miserable person.

Dude was absolutely melting down last year insisting that LSU wouldn't make it out of a regional.

speed and athleticism =/= health

There's definitely a difference between performance and health.

it does like 98% of the time

a pretty small % of population actually lifts, and you have to factor in people who do lift (heavy) but are still pretty fat.

Everyone knows that outliers exist when it comes to BMI, as it only accounts for body mass, which include lean muscle mass.

My point is, if you are one of those people, why would you care so much? If you truly know you are not obese, who cares?

BMI is relevant for the vast majority of people. It doesn't need to be re-written.

if you are not big then why does your shirt stick out so far and why do you have 3 distinct fat rolls on your side that can be seen through the shirt?

and why do you have to wear your jeans so low? maybe because your belly sits on top?

A. I've never once claimed to be in perfect physical shape (because I'm not).
Just said that's I'm not a very big person.

B. Here's a side view.

Could I be in better shape? absolutely.
I fluctuate between 160# - 165# with a 32" waist.

not perfect, but damn sure not big.

If you are 262 with a 32 " waist you are basically Nick Bosa. I need proof. You are a beast if that is true.

So would it be fair to say that since the majority of the population doesn't strength train nor train their cardiovascular system, it's not a great measurement for athletes/physically active people?

Cool. BMI says you are just barely overweight too. It doesn't say you are big. Just that you could lose like 10 lbs.

So, what exactly, is your issue with BMI?

men, not really

the vast majority of physically active people will fall within a normal BMI and a lot of physically active people are still fat

Waist to hip ratio is probably better but dependent on the person taking the measurements. Think about the person taking your height and weight when you go to the doctor NOW how many of those do you think woud be better suited to take accurate hip to waist measurements.

So, theoretically the formula is probably better but getting accurate data for a more accurate number is probably less attainable.

On my last visit they weight me with my jacket on, phone in my pocket and measured me almost 3" taller than I am.

I pretty much hover right at that line between ideal weight and overweight.
and on most charts I've seen, I'm usually juuuuuuuuust under the overweight line.
up until I hit around 40 or so I was comfortably below that line.

I eat a lot better now than when I was younger (still not nearly as healthy as I should though).

The point was that the guy I originally quoted used 25 BMI as if that was a big number.
Is it ideal or perfect? nope.
but it sure as shite isn't big.

Unfortunately, the health of a nations population is the business of those that make up the population.

Healthcare costs
Access to healthcare
Overall medical guidance, best practices, prior auth requirements, over utilization, drug prices

A healthier nation is better for everyone same with a more education. The healthier and smarter a nations population is the less dependent they can be on the government which is good for the people.
