Well, it is actually much more than just 'preception'....that is, for everyone else except the folks in ruston.

Here's the difference: Both UL(L) and Tech have grown their athletic budgets and facilities since the times when the three schools competed against each other in the same conference. Since ULM joined the ranks at the FBS level, they have had ONE winning season in the last 26a years. Right now, there are four.....FOUR Southland schools with larger budgets than ULM. Neither Tech nor us have that issue. Heck, our athletic budget doubles yours; yet you are considered a foe.

My son had the opportunity to play at ULM and ULL. Rob Sale made a nice pitch but in the end he chose to play where his Mom and Dad went to school. He became disillusioned pretty quickly and is now one of 23 players to either quit or enter the transfer portal this year. There were numerous reasons for him to leave but the main one is he did not see the commitment to winning, mainly from the players but also the coaching staff.

I will give you the arse waxing in the statement is a little far fetched but no matter how you spin it, Tech had an offer to play and turned it down knowing full well who the opponent on the other end was. Now whether they did it for what most Tech folks say was an opportunity for a better offer that never came that ultimately fricked the school for getting bowl revenue and the players for getting additional practice time or they just didn't want to play ULM because getting a loss to team that most of their fans feel is beneath them would be a huge black eye is very unclear. Nevertheless, the perception is still there.

There is fault to go around everywhere. LA Tech simply wanted to play in the Liberty Bowl on ABC. That was going to happen until Northern Illinois unexpectedly jumped high enough in the BCS rankings to get a NY6 bowl (the Orange Bowl to be exact). It pushed every Big 12 team down a slot forcing a Big 12 team into the Liberty Bowl that was previously going to go unfilled.

Tech knew everything hinged on the BCS rankings and asked the Independence Bowl for more time. The Independence Bowl got petty and went invited Ohio (who ended up thrashing the Warhawks) to spite Tech. Louisiana Tech never "rejected" the invite, they simply asked for more time since they were in line for a bowl game with significantly more exposure.

Ultimately, it was fine because Bruce Van De Velde needed to go and that decision to “disrespect” the Independence Bowl is what did him in.

Ronald Reagan was still in office as President the last time that school in Monroe beat Louisiana Tech in Football. Sit back & think about that for a second. If there is any school that needs to drop back down to FCS it is that school in Monroe. I say this knowing we have many budget, administrative, & fan issues at Tech but they are on another level of mediocrity.

Partly because La Tech refused to play NLU/ULM. Can't lose if you don't play. I had to say it because everybody knew it was coming.

How quickly the Techsters forget they backed out of the Independence Bowl and ended up bowl-less after a 9-3 season because they were afraid ULM was going to wax their arse.

Two intriguing names in this article.

Broderick Fobbs (I like him), and freaking Hud.

LINK

Hud getting the job would be quite interesting.

Most of the MAC needs to drop down, as do a few MWC schools, CUSA schools, Sun Belt schools, and UConn.

Looking in from the outside, I wouldn't so much say teams need to drop down; but I WOULD say there needs to be another, intermediate division.

As funny as it may sound, Hud may be just the right guy at the right time. The ULM fan base is all but given up, and he is a motivator. He will get people to show up to games.

I don't think ULM would hire someone like Hud. Unless it's new blood calling the shots.

Hud would be scary at South Al with a new stadium and 30 minutes from a beach.

Yeah he was only 78-33 as the HC at McNeese.

Who here knows Coach McGee? Carlos is hilarious.

Coach Viator took us to lunch one time at Waterfront Grille when he first got the job. We then got to go on the sidelines for the Spring game.

This is one of the only times in my life to be able to namedrop that’s all I have. I know I’m pathetic.

And still close enough to his contacts in Mississippi to recruit

He would thrive in that environment

You laturd folks always act like it was your choice who was chosen to play in that bowl. Hard fact: you are not....it is up to the bowl folks to make that decision. What arrogance to think that they would stand idly by while Ruston looked for a better date to the prom. But even Ruston knew better and that they were effectively turning down the offer. But it has been their cover story ever since.
But I agree with lalady....you guys spin this until you get yourselves all dizzy, while the rest of the world says TLDR and moves on. Y’all are fooling no one with all of your endless bullshite.

I guess they would be more competitive if they dropped down. But it would hurt financially. Scholarships are a paper cost. Travel costs may fall some, but not a whole lot. Their payday revenue would take a huge hit. FCS teams get 1/2-1/3 of the rate of FBS road warriors.
