Why? Because you don't have an argument? ULMs campus is 1000x better than where it was in the 90s. There are a lot of new buildings and renovations. Yes our athletic facilities need an upgrade but to say the campus doesn't look good is ignorant as hell.

Whatever...I don't think the ULL campus looks that great. I have actually always thought Bayou DeSiard looks great. I personally think it looks a million times better than your swamp...but that's a matter of opinion.

And when were you on the ULM campus last? Just curious. I've been on both in the last 5 years.

Bayou DeSiard is awesome. There are parts of each campuses that suck. Parts of both that are really nice.

The main difference is Lafayette vs Monroe.

CajunsFan, I really don't disagree on your points. Especially the merchandising. Probably the biggest problem for ULM is their location in a town that is basically dying. ULL's location is probably the best thing they have going for it. Lafayette is a growing city, generally (you'd be surprised to know I lived there a few years).

Mostly, I'm just sad to see my old school struggling when they were so different when I was there.

Yeah dude talking out his arse... I grew up 5 minutes from campus(Booker T)... it’s a hundred times better than the 80’s and 90’s...

Well, ok, let me clarify my first post: I guess it is fair to say the ULM is better than in years past. And I'll leave it that.

As far as UL's campus, it is without a doubt beautiful...more in an urban way, as opposed to the huge suburban sprawl of something like lsu, but still beautiful.

And that 'swamp' you mention is big part of the unque and natural beauty of the campus. I can't do it now, but I will post some pics of just how beautiful the campus is in a bit.

I challenge you to do the same for ULM so we can get a good comparison.

p.s. I was at the UL games in Monroe 2 years ago, and also 2 years prior to that as well. I also had a good friend who went to ULM in the 80's, so I visited him there sveral time throughout the 80's. So yeah, I know the campus well. Way better than you have seen the whole UL campus, I would wager.

Just curious, what part of UL's main campus do you think sucks? T'Joe has really done a great job of getting it in great shape....even those old maintenance 'sheds' are gone now, lol.
To me the worst part is also it's most visible one: Johnston St from Uuniversity to St Mary. It is in bad need (but still does not suck) of landscaping, much like they have along both St Mary and University.

I agree with you on this too....I find it really sad to see ULM in the shape that it is in. As I said earlier, I knew it pretty well in the 80's (drank Everclear for the first time at a party there) so I understand your frustration.

the community never forgave ULM for not giving local players a chance... my high school days (the 90’s) they flat out didn’t recruit in town... ULM should have only recruited NE Louisiana for years in my opinion just to build the fan base...

Damn you sound like me. However, the problem with chasing local talent is you have to develop it since the cream of the crop of local talent that would be instant coffee is leaving to LSU, TCU, and other big schools and ULM would be left at best with 2 and 3 star talent. You aren't building a program with that over night so they had to go get win right now gamble mercenaries at the JUCO's. They might chase a few kids local but not at the level that is going to have them sniffing any kind of success however, I will say that Viator did chase quite a few local kids.

A good local guy who is also a NLU grad that would have probably done real well if this opportunity came about last year is Mickey McCarty who was the head coach at Neville last season but took the job as Principal there this year. He would have been a solid candidate.

I lived and worked near Kaliste Saloom and Pinhook for 2 years. This was just a few years ago. So I've spent a lot of time in Lafayette.

I know that. And it looks very nice now. But I'm more of a water ski in the bayou girl than an alligator girl, I guess. Also, the first time I saw that swamp was in the late 70's when I went to yearbook camp at USL. It looked pretty rough then.

51% of ULM’s athletic budget comes from the general fund transfers. 57% for UL. (2019 USA Today data).

Thanks for a real response. Other posters seemed very bothered that such a question was even asked.

What sort of attendance is ULL running these days at games (precovid that is). ULM had a decent run with attendance back in 2012, but since then it has been back to being bad.

Why do they have to be relegated to ULM but ULL is Louisiana? Shouldn't they be Louisiana also?

Is this a rhetorical question? What’s on your mind?

Ok, as promised, here I am to pimp the UL campus, and Cypress Lake in particular. If you haven’t seen it recently, there have been lots of improvements to the area: they’ve torn down the old Student U ‘eyesore’ buildings along Hebrard and created a really nice green space in its place, as well as added a new meeting area....’Cypress Lake Plaza.’ They’ve also added a pier going out into the lake.

Also, the new Student U wraps around the lake, with fantastic outdoor terraces for dining, etc.

Here are just a few pics for your viewing pleasure:

An aerial view, during construction of the pier/plaza. In front of the boom is the lake, to it's left is the new Student U. The new plaza is directly behind the boom, and next to that is new green space, which fronts Hebrad Blvd.

The new pier. The deck that was part of the old Guillory Hall was salvaged, and always has lots of vistors around it...young kids especially enjoy it as they can see alligators, turtles and all of the other wildlife of the Lake. The new pier has added a lot to this experience.

A night view of the pier

The new Cypress Lake Plaza. It has a built-in diaz, berm seating around it, and is used for pep rallies, mini-concerts, and many other purposes. It has quickly become a very popular gathering spot on campus.

Some shots of the terraces surrounding the lake

A view looking towards the U. The large, modern structure was salvaged from the 1969 version of the U.

The front of the U, on McKinley

A neat view of the Arcade in the Quad

New Mexico State needs to drop down

ULM's endowment is 23 million, that is, less than DII schools like Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas. ULM's barely beats UA-Monticello on endowment money.

Probably the lowest university endowment of any D1 football school, by a mile

If ULM can afford it, they should try to bump up to that extra 6%, but who knows if they will. UL’s President actually has been trying to ween down the transfer lately to prep for possible future changes in either tuition revenues or some sort of legislative change banning the practice.

The hell they should. ULM is suffering athletically, but doing some good things at the university. Screw it, hire a shady coach, get some criminals on the team from the JC route and win some damn games. That is how it is done. Then the people that care will up the donations a bit to offset.

examples of schools with a larger university endowment than ULM's 23 million

lowly 1AA's Austin Peay in Tennessee, UT-Martin

Murray State

DII West Georgia

DII's in Arkansas, Arkansas Tech, Southern Arkansas, and UA Monticello Boll Weevils are right on their heels

DII Delta State

DIII....Louisiana College in Pineville. Louisiana College endowment is 27 million to ULM's 23 million

Texas DII's - Texas A&M-Kingsville, Angelo State, Tarleton State
